Despite being a junior, Canlas
already topped 1,000 career-points
this year while averaging 18.3 ppg.
Surrattsville felt Canlas’ wrath on
Feb. 9 when she went off for 28
points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
The Lady Eagles’ point guard
was a scoring machine, averaging
18.9 ppg in her senior season. She
scored more than 10 points in every
game but one (nine), and dropped a
season-high 37 vs. McEachern.
Palmer, Parkdale’s engine, averaged 20.3 ppg. Her biggest output
came against Suitland when she
scored 39 points. Palmer also got
teammates involved and had at least
three assists in every game.
While Pinyien did avearge 11
ppg, rebounding was her forte. The
6-foot-4 senior grabbed 344 rebounds in 25 games (13.8 rpg) and
had four games with at least 20 rebounds.
Wilson racked up two 30point games this year on her way to
averaging 18.4 ppg. However, her
two best all-around games came
against Wise (28 points, 17 boards)
and Largo (26 points, 13 boards).

Oxon Hill
The sophomore averaged 16.9
ppg for the Yellowjackets and went
on an impressive stretch of seven
20-plus scoring games from Jan. 30
- Feb. 22, including a 29-point effort against Fairmont Heights.
Brown-Turner was the epitome
of consistency for McNamara, as the
sophomore averaged 16.7 ppg and
scored at least 20 points on 11 different occasions. Only four times did
she not score more than 10 points.
The junior was the lone bright
spot on a 12-12 Laurel team, as she
averaged 16.3 ppg and flirted with
double-digit rebounds. She posted
26 points, 11 rebounds, three assists
and a block against Flowers.
The 5-foot-6 junior paced Suitland with 17.1 ppg this year, including a season-high 27 points against
Laurel on Feb. 14. Peterson recorded
three double-doubles on the year and
scored less than 10 points just once.
The sophomore guard was the
leading scorer (11.8 ppg) for a team
that had five players average eight
or more points. Warren’s seasonhigh came against Largo when she
scored 21 points.
Honorable
Mention
Biggest Surprise
Most Improved
Oxon Hill
DuVal
Jennifer Manosi
While Oxon Hill was good last
year with a 16-7 record, not many
people saw them going 20-5 this
season and earning a trip to the state
semifinals. But that is exactly what
the Lady Clippers did. It was Oxon
Hill’s first trip back to the state semifinals since 2004, when the program
went four out of five years.
The Lady Tigers went from a
2-16 season last year to a 9-15
record this year. While the team
still finished below .500, a sevenwin improvement deserves some
monetion. Things are looking up
for DuVal as Brenae Ford led the
team in scoring with 15 ppg. The
good thing: she is just a freshman.

Oxon Hill
Largo
The reigning state champs returned to the finals again this year,
but came up short this time around to
New Town. The Lady Lions finished
with a 19-7 record and were the only
county girls’ team to make it to the
state final. Largo had six girls average more than seven points-pergame.
