Check Out Our New Bus Rider Guide customer UPDATE August 2016 Know Before You Pokémon GO With the increasing popularity of Niantic’s newest app-based, augmented reality game, where players take on the role of Pokémon trainers, we want to remind our customers to stay safe while trying to "catch ‘em all." Follow the simple safety tips below as you “travel across the land, searching far and wide.” Don’t let Pokémon Go LURE you into restricted areas like train yards or bus garages or onto train tracks. Always be aware of your surroundings and do not trespass. Pokémon can survive a battle with a train; you can’t. When battling inside some of the many gyms located near our stations, please remember to stay a safe distance away from the tracks. Don’t be a SLOWPOKE and hold up any commuter traffic when trying to catch a Pokémon. Keep your head up and your phone down until you are safely seated onboard a bus, train or light rail vehicle. Then by all means, catch it! Always maintain your INSTINCT and VALOR when playing the game. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and follow these simple safety tips so you accomplish the goal of being the very best Pokémon trainer! Attention bus customers. New bus rider guides are now available, filled with information to help you navigate our bus system, as well as connect with our rail and light rail services. That includes reading a bus schedule, using our online Trip Planner, purchasing bus tickets and passes, and obtaining realtime bus arrival information on your handheld device using MyBus. The Rider Guide also offers helpful tips to make your trip safe and enjoyable, including safely traveling with children, safely boarding, exiting and waiting for a bus, and signaling the bus operator when you are ready to get off the bus. Other information that can be found in the rider guide includes: How to receive travel alerts and advisories. What to do when there is a service disruption and cross-honoring of tickets and passes. How to use ticket vending machines (TVMs). How to download the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App. How to report and track lost items. Don’t forget, many of our buses are equipped with bike racks or luggage compartments that can accommodate bicycles. If you are planning to travel on a bus with your bike, the rider guide advises you to have your bike ready to load as the bus approaches and follow the instructions of the bus operator for loading your bike. Finally, you will find tips on rider etiquette. As a reminder, smoking, eating and drinking are strictly prohibited on NJ TRANSIT buses. We also ask that you be respectful of those around you when traveling on a bus, such as using headphones when listening to electronic devices or speaking softly when using a cellular phone. And please consider giving up your seat for seniors, mothers with children and expectant mothers. Stop by one of our Customer Service offices or call the Transit Information Center at (973) 275-5555 to obtain a copy of the rider guide, or find it online at www.njtransit.com Schedules and Fares Bus Rider Guide. Printed copies are available in English and Spanish. The online version can also be translated into multiple languages with our handy Google Translate tool! NJ TRANSIT Increasing Light Rail Capacity Ten years ago, NJ TRANSIT celebrated a new phase of economic revitalization for the State’s largest city with the opening of Newark Light Rail’s (NLR) Broad Street Extension. This critical addition connected Newark Penn Station and Newark Broad Street Station, expanding travel options throughout the region. The NLR extension provides fast and convenient service to Newark’s downtown business district and entertainment venues, such as the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and The Newark Museum. The service has been so successful, that NJ TRANSIT recently rolled out the first of 10 expanded light rail vehicles, providing customers with 50 percent more seating and a more comfortable ride. njtransit.com (973) 275-5555 Twenty-five expanded light rail cars are also coming to Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, including one already operating on the system. NJ TRANSIT partnered with its original vehicle manufacturer to create an innovative, cost-effective solution that would not significantly impact the HudsonBergen Light Rail or Newark Light Rail infrastructure, or require a costly investment in new rail cars. Kinkisharyo International, LLC came up with the simple and elegant design using existing resources and spare equipment. These capacity improvements on both light rail systems were advanced based on customer feedback through our quarterly Scorecard surveys. We hope you enjoy the ride!
