Please Have One Student Read out Loud and Another
Move The Slides
Greetings Honorable Students
The following presentation will help guide you
through the following four days in my absence.
Please pay close attention - you should stop all talking
and get your pen ready to jot down important things
There are two topics that you will be concerned
with over the next four days:
Gas Exchange
&
Excretion
Allow Three Periods on Each. Begin with Chapter 11
These two topics can be found in Chapter 11 & 12
respectively in the yellow book in the corner
At this time you should get a book to
work with - at least one book for every
two students
Please make sure you have the worksheets for
Chapter 11 Gas Exchange/Respiration
These worksheets are located under my computer
desk. They will be handed out by the Substitute or Mrs.
Laruccia
Please put your Name, Period, and Date on your sheet
immediately. You will only get one.
Working in Groups of 2 to 4, please begin going
through the chapter. The chapter will discuss gas
exchange for different organisms. We are not
concerned about all of them...
As your GROUP goes through the packet, you
will encounter questions about different
organisms - you are to ignore these questions
unless they deal with protozoans
(amoeba/paramecia) and humans.
The packet will challenge each student to learn the
significant concepts regarding gas exchange in
protozoans and humans. You can meet this challenge
if you work sincerely and help each other.
Some of you will be tempted to fill in the blanks by
copying what others have written. This helps no one. If
you are uncertain about a question please discuss it
with others in your group to gain understanding.
What do you need to know after studying this topic?
We can divide what you need to know into a three fold
division:
1. The Structures associated with gas
exchange
2. The Functions associated with each structure
3. The Diseases/Malfunctions associated with gas
exchange
After the next three periods, be able to identify
these Structures & Know their Functions:
Nose
cavity / nasal
Pharynx (space behind mouth)
Trachea
Bronchi
Bronchioles
Alveoli
Diaphragm
Label the diagram in your
packet
After the next three periods, be able to identify
these Diseases of The Respiratory System:
Asthma
Bronchitis
Emphysema
Pneumonia
Lung Cancer
Your efforts should be directed at completing these
tasks first.
Once these objectives are accomplished then
complete the worksheets.
The Quiz
You will be allowed to use your notes on this topic
for the subsequent quiz on Friday. You will not be
able to use the worksheet. You may only use notes
written on your note paper.
This presentation will repeat if you let it run
You can turn the volume off using the white knob
for the white speakers
