Although Energize will utilize existing technology, what sets the company apart from the
competition is our unique and innovative business model. Energize will establish new standards in the
fitness industry through our innovative user experience. Energize will provide club members with an
incentive to workout harder and more often. As club members generate electricity through
workouts they will earn a credit each month. This credit can be used in two different ways.

Unlike most fitness centres, Energize allows its members – who are community eco-warriors - to become more engaged
with the facility, the community and the environment. Since Energize captures it’s members energy and uses it to
generate electricity, the company is actually assisting with the reduction of greenhouse gases that are released into the
atmosphere. Energize is a true example of a company with a triple bottom line at the heart of its mission statement.

Jenny – Hi there I’m looking for Jason
Jay – You must be Jenny, I’m so happy you decided to try us out. Tell me a bit about yourself and what
brings you to Energize.
SLIDE: TARGET
Jenny – Well, I’m a 26 iBanker. I work long hours, live in the downtown core, and try to work out at least
twice a week. I’d love to do something for my community, or volunteer more but there just aren’t
enough hours in the day.
Jay – That’s perfect, you’ve come to the right place. Here at Energize you’re not only be able to get your
workout fix, but also have a chance to give back to your community. Or if you so choose, earn a discount
on your membership fees. Where did you hear about Energize?

Jenny – A colleague at work mentioned that her Lawyer husband works out here, and swears by the
experience. I have to say, this place looks pretty great. I noticed the large solar panels on the roof and I
love all the natural light from the windows.

Jay – Well, what you may not have realized is that the windows face south for maximum solar energy
capture. In Canada, positioning a building this way allows for maximum light and heat. This allows us to
reduce heating costs in the winter. Let’s take a tour, first stop – the lobby. As you can see, we have high
ceilings, tons of natural light, natural building materials and we’re LEED certified. Even our cleaning
materials are sourced green.

Jenny – That sounds great! But, I have to say…you haven’t sold me quite yet. What really makes
Energize different?
Jay – That’s a great question Jenny. Let me show you. Here, take this wristband and let me show you the
complete Energize experience. As you walk you past the reception, you swipe your wristband across the
scanner to sign in. Quick and hassle-free. The gym is divided into three zones:
- Gym Floor
- Group Classes
Let’s check out the gym floor first. It’s in the 2nd floor. The gym floor is outfitted with state of the art
machinery. Take this elliptical for example, all you have to do is swipe your wristband here on the
scanner located on the machine and start your workout. You can plug in your earphones and enjoy.
Why don’t you give it a try, hop on! – (Jenny starts riding) -- The energy generated by the workout is
recorded and attributed directly to your member account in the form of an energy credit. The energy
that is captured is sent into the grid to provide the community with green energy! And, best of all the
credit amount can be used in two different manners at the end of each month. You can either use it to
discount your monthly membership fees, or you can donate it directly to a registered charity of your
choice!
Jenny – That’s great! But, I really enjoy taking group classes. Can you show me where your activity
rooms are?
Jay – Absolutely, come with me. – Jenny and Jay walk – we offer yoga, pilates, step classes and more!
Jenny – Fantastic, but how do you capture that energy?
Jay – See that scanner over there on the wall? The floor is actually equipped with technology that can
capture energy from your hands and feet as you perform your exercises. The energy credit that is
earned from the class is then divided equally amongst each participating member!
Jenny – Just to make sure I understand…my entire workout, be it on a machine or in a group class, is
captured and translated into energy units. I can then take those units and apply them against my
membership bill or donate to my charity of choice?
Jay – Yep, you got it! Let me show you one more thing. Lets go up one more flight of stairs to the change
rooms.
Jenny – What’s so special about this changeroom?
Jay – Well, the changerooms are also equipped with green technology. For example, our water is heated
by solar energy through the solar water heaters installed on the roof. In addition, there are heat
exchangers installed in the drain pipes to capture the wasted heat from the drain water, and is then
used to assist the building’s heat system during the cold months.
Jenny – I won’t feel as guilty taking a long post-workout shower then. I have another question, how do I
redeem my energy credits?
SLIDE: EXIT & EXTENSION
Jay - As you make it home that night, you get a reminder that it’s time to check your Energize Gym
account for the month. You log in through your computer of mobile device and see that you’ve
generated say $20 of energy this month. You have two choices – you can pay down a portion of your
monthly bill or donate to a charity. For example: the endorphins you released while exercising make you
feel extra happy and generous, so you click on your favourite charity and donate the money directly.
Jenny – Wow, that seems so simple. Is there anything else I can do online?
Jay – Yep, you can chat on our forums, learn about new green tech, read our blogs and stay in the know
on new gym developments.
Jenny: Amazing, where do I sign up?
Jay – Come back to my office and we can get all the non-paper paperwork, because we’re paperless
facility, completed.
