G ENERAL I NFORMATION
Many alternate current devices such as motors,
tranformers, welding equipment and other
inductive loads absorb two types of power:
active power, to perform the work for which this unit
was designed and reactive power, to magnetize the
devices. Altough indispensable, reactive power
produces no useful work. You can buy it from your
electricity supplier or use the reactive power
supplied by capacitors.
The low voltage capacitors manufactured by
Electro-Mecanik/Playford, in compliance with ISO
9001 requirements, are recognized for their
reliability and durability. The industrial and
commercial lines of products will provide the
reactive power required by your equipment and
reduce your electric power costs.
P URPOSE
They may be used as replacement parts or for new
installations. They come with floor mount bracket. A
wall mount bracket kit is also available on request.
Three different sizes, cover the range of 5 to 100
Kvar. Fuses and blown fuse indicators are available
as an option.

The power factor is the ratio of the real power
measured in kilowatt (kW) and the power supplied
by the utility measured in kilovolt-amperes (kVA).

In an inductive electrical circuit such as a circuit
feeding an induction motor there are two kinds of
power:

The heating element is the heart of the unit heater.
Electro-Mecanik/Playford has designed the element
to withstand the worst operating conditions.
A stainless steel core and high temperature refractory
insulators provide continuous support for the high
quality nickel/chrome alloy resistance wire coil . Each
element is bolted onto a mounting frame to withstand
high velocities, vigorous heat cycling and external
vibration.
All the components of our unit heaters are designed
and fabricated with the same rigorous standards.

G ENERAL I NFORMATION
Electro-Mecanik/Playford Heating elements are designed
for industrial applications requiring great durability, low
watt density, minimum maintenance, custom fabrication
and very long life.
A PPLICATIONS
1. Steel tanks and reservoirs where rigid elements
inserted into pipes are required.
2. Viscous products which could burn on contact with the
elements.
3. Chemicals and mixtures that could break down with
intense heat.
4. Continuous processes requiring reliability and ease of
maintenance.
F EATURES
1. Electro-Mecanik/Playford h eating elements are
guaranteed for five (5) years against defects in
materials and workmanship.
2. The elements are open coil type with ceramic
insulators, inserted in 3 diameter tubes.
3. The elements are designed at low or very low watt
densities, for heating viscous products, such as tar,
asphalt, bunker or chemical products. THS prevents
degrading of the product and provides a long
life to the elements.
4. The elements are designed and fabricated per
application, with the best combination of length,
number of tubes and power required for the product to
be heated.
5. The elements can easily be withdrawn from their
tubes without having to drain the tank.
6. All our elements are tested for dielectric strength at
2500 volts for 1 minute.
7. Heater tubes are pressure tested at 25 PSI. (175
KPA).
8. Connection box is weatherproof, or can be explosion
proof if required.
9. Heaters can be supplied with flanges for bolting or
welding to the tank. We can adapt to existing flanges
when possible. Installation drawings can be provided.
10. Thermowell or thermocouple available.
11. Elements are "ACNOR" (CSA) approved.
