ENERGY AGENCY
Based near Ayr, this dynamic organisation, an independent charity promotes energy
efficiency and renewable energy in the domestic, community and business sectors throughout
South West Scotland.
The Energy Agency manages the Home Energy Efficiency Programme for Scotland: Area
Based Schemes for South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway. The Energy
Agency also delivers a variety of other contracts, including the Home Energy Scotland advice
service and education work covering all aspects of advice on energy efficiency, micro
generation and sustainability in North, South and East Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
Area Based Schemes is funded by the Scottish Government to enable
insulation to be installed in private households and social housing across south west Scotland.
As a result of the range of work programmes, particularly those dealing with the installation
of external wall insulation, the Energy Agency requires an experienced professional to
support the programmes of delivery in Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
Project Officers will assist the Project Coordinators in managing the area based work streams.
The main role is to help organise operational activities between householders, contractors,
housing providers and local authorities.
Staff will work closely with all stakeholders including contractors, installers, office based
staff and Council staff. The role involves assistance, team working and administration skills.

Responsible to

Primary Purpose
The post has two main functions:

Assist the ABS Project Co-ordinators in coordinating energy
efficiency contractors working with householders, housing providers
and Councils to deliver the area based scheme projects mainly within
Ayrshire.

Work with other team members within the Energy Agency
delivering energy efficiency and sustainability across South West
Scotland.

Primary responsibilities
The Project Officer will be responsible for:
 Assisting the Project Coordinator in building and maintaining relationships with all
customers who have registered an interest in the Area Based Schemes and supporting
them through the process from survey to post installation of energy efficiency
measures.
 Helping maintain effective relationships with contractors to ensure efficient delivery
of the energy efficiency measures in connection with the area based schemes.
 Assisting the Project Coordinator in providing advice to customers that will
complement and add value to advice given by contractors of how to use their new
systems effectively including post installation advice and support.
 Assisting with complaints from customers, Councillors, MPs and MSPs. Help gather
evidence from contractors, funders or any other relevant party in order to respond
effectively to complaints.
 Assisting in working with contractors and householders to ensure reliable and timely
reports may be compiled for local authorities in order to report monthly to Scottish
Government.
 Liaising with the ABS team and colleagues to review progress reports from installers
and ensuring customers are kept informed.
 Preparing mailings to potential customers to improve uptake of Area Based Scheme.
 Working in partnership with the other Energy Agency staff to support events,
displays, presentations and reports.
Other Responsibilities
 Handling and responding to customer enquiries through face-to-face meetings,
telephone calls and written correspondence

Delivering accurate and impartial advice on energy efficiency, affordable warmth, and
renewable energy to householders, including the delivery of national Fuel Poverty
Programmes
 Providing information and, where appropriate, making referrals on behalf of
customers to grants, subsidies and other sources of funding for the installation of
energy saving measures, including those relating to national Fuel Poverty
Programmes
 Ensuring that information and data entered into the customer relationship database is
accurate and efficiently maintained

Maintaining effective customer relationships to assist customers to take action upon
advice provided, including follow up work and liaison with partners

Maintaining an up to date working knowledge of sustainable energy matters and fuel
poverty and keeping the relevant information, literature and documentation available
for review

Undertake any other duties as appropriate as instructed by senior staff.

Working Hours
Although the standard working week will be 35 hours, there will be the requirement to work
outwith those hours on occasion, for which time off in lieu at normal time will be granted.
Qualifications
Essential

Degree or equivalent

Demonstrable experience of working in energy industry or
on energy related projects

City & Guilds 6176 in Energy Awareness
Desirable

Technical knowledge of energy efficiency solutions for
houses, especially in retrofit situations

