There are questions that come to our mind about management such as what is management? Is it art or science? And how can it benefit us in our lives? Management can be defined as the art of getting things done through the efforts of other people; it also can be defined as using the organization resources to achieve its goals. Management is both art and science and hopefully with our help the student will be able to identify and develop the essential skills required to be a better manger (Bauer, Carpenter, and Erdogan, 2009). This text will be introducing the principles of management by approaching strategy, entrepreneurship and active leadership. After understanding the term of management and what it includes it will be easier to understand the principles of management which this book is about. Principles of management are referred to as the means that the manger uses to manage to get things done in the organization. Principles of management are defined as “ the activities that “plan, organize, and control the operations of the basic elements of people, materials, machines, methods, money and markets, providing direction and coordination, and giving leadership to human efforts, so as to achieve the sought objectives of the enterprise.” (Bauer, Carpenter, and Erdogan, 2009). The students will learn that to achieve the organization goals it must use very important concepts in management that many researchers agree upon these concepts or functions that Henri Fayol described when he was a CEO these functions are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Each of these functions the student has learned or heard about in different courses, but in this course will emphasize the importance of these functions in management. It will also show how the organization plays in delegating these functions to it mangers and how mangers for all levels from the organization must perfume them (Weber, 2000). According to Dubrin that learning the basic concepts of management makes it easier to connect between the theory concept of management and the actual practice of management by letting the 2|Page mangers and the organization how to apply the principles of management (Dubrin, 2003). This material was created to an audience that composes of students who have no background or a limited knowledge of management and who are learning the basic concepts of management to apply their knowledge of management in their future careers, based on those needs, the goals that this project seeks to accomplish are: 1) To raise the students awareness about management and its various functions. 2) To help the students learn about the ethics of management. 3) Let the students learn how to apply the skills of management in their lives. And in order of these goals to be achieved, these following objectives should be met: 1) Introduce the basic concepts of management. 2) Learn the basic four functions of management (planning, organizing, leading and controlling). 3) To apply the practical part of management in organizations. The way this project was designed is to introduce the students to the basics of concepts of management in a easy and simple way everyone will understand. It also attempts to combine the theory parts of management with its practical parts by the exercises. And by providing the students with rich, interesting, and clear concepts of management, this project can be used as a sufficient textbook in a curriculum that teaches the skills of management 3|Page References Principles of Management.
