August 2014 The start of the season saw little MacKenzie proudly wearing Wahroonga colours. Joined by her cousins Milla and Maddi, MacKenzie also gets to watch her Gran Ali Handley play in the winter competition. Wahroonga Softball Club can now be found on Facebook. Be sure to like us to keep up to date with the happenings on and off the diamonds. 5 Saturdays left to play Team Reports Ferals The Ferals have had a good 2014 season so far and are currently sitting at the top of the C Reserve grade table. At the beginning of the season we welcomed a new player, Suzanne, who has fitted very well into our team. We’ve had a number of home run scorers this year, with Sharon and Rachel leading the charge with the most to date. Ali Handley made a fantastic home run a few weeks ago to show us that she still knows how to place a ball in the field. Our coach John continues to improve our skills and offer encouragement (and the occasional roasting) to keep us enjoying our softball Cougars The Cougars began the season with a roar, having not experienced one victory last season, our first game this year was an unequivocal win. Sadly we lost some players due to injury and our one week winning streak turned into a review of last season. With some new members and an unfailing enthusiasm it didn't take long before each member of the team was beginning to show marked improvement and our winning streak returned. It's been a wonderful experience playing with such a friendly team who enjoys playing together and can now enjoy winning also. Wildcats Assistant Coach Deb Greenhalgh states, "In only my second year of assistant coaching I could not be prouder of these Wildcats girls who are committed to the game & their team! They are enthusiastic & keen to learn. Head coach, JB, has the knowledge of the game, experience to teach the technical aspects & the tactical moves that these girls take on board & bring to the game. I am very happy to be a part of this team in a sport that I love!" These being the short but wise & true words of wisdom & experience from none other than Head Coach JB himself, "We are currently in second place, doing very well & happy with the girls." Manager, Katrina Bulmer, says "I'm so excited when they cheer each other on, hit the ball really hard or do amazing plays, which result from the real team bonding. All this with smiles & laughter 'cause they LOVE SOFTBALL & THEIR WILDCATS TEAM." Except maybe when they're hit by wild pitched balls!! Hmmm! Special Cats Hard to believe there are only a few more weeks left…this is our third Season and each becomes more enjoyable. We watch our very special Athletes become more capable and confident and leave some of us ‘oldies’ far behind. Michael joined us this year and has taken catches on 3rd base and has proven to be a very valuable player. Emily continues to surprise us with her enthusiastic joy of playing and increased speed and batting skills. Lauren is amazing, whether she is pitching or playing in the outfield – she can go anywhere and you know she’ll be fantastic. Lachlan continues to be a capable player, and loves the game. Nathaniel has taken on the role of Catcher and does a great job – and as far as batting goes he had a fabulous grand slam home run! Mel has had a turn at catching and as usual was completely up for the challenge, and performed brilliantly. Jimmy is incredible, when bat hits ball, look out. And be aware, he is desperate to tag – anyone, anytime, anywhere, any team, any player !! Sue Hamilton also joined the team – she’s doing fine. I think she’s played before ..? The ABC continue to follow us. But who would be foolish enough to be awake at 5am on Monday mornings to listen to that?? So as we enter the last few weeks, we’ll continue to do our best, laugh when we win, laugh when we lose…..because win or lose….there will always be champagne and pink lemonade. Pumas The Pumas have had a slow start to the season but with the finals only a few weeks away the Pumas came out Bats a blazing, with a huge 22-2 win. It all started with a huge home run from Katrina in the first innings, followed by 3 more by Hannah, Vanessa and Kristy with Kristy’s hit going all the way to the canteen. Everyone had a great game the Pumas are looking to finish the season with a top 4 finish.
