Student Instructions for NetLab

HOW TO WORK WITH NDG'S NETLAB LABS
For those of you who have not used NetLab yet...
The following details will hopefully help you to logon and schedule labs for your course in NetLab. After
reviewing the following, if you are still having problems logging on or scheduling a lab, please let your
instructor know so they can help you or e-mail [email protected].
Where:
Your Linux labs are found at http://myvlab3.collin.edu.
Login:
Student login name = <first initial><last name>
Password = default password is "password123" (If you need a password reset, please e-mail
[email protected].)
Remote Access Tests:
The first time you log in, you need to run the Remote Access Test to verify you have all the proper settings
that allow the labs to work properly. The main problem we have seen is not having Java installed. Each
time you log in on another PC, you will also see this.
After that test completes, you will see the following display. The big Scheduler box is what you will use to
Schedule your labs.
Which Class is used for Labs:
Look for the name of the class in which you enrolled.
Schedule Labs:
Click the Schedule box, and you will see a list of all classes in which you are enroll that have virtual labs.
Select your class; then you will see a list of the labs that are available for your class. Pick the lab you wish
to review. You can download the Lab Instructions by clicking on the file icon or you will see the same
when you get into the lab.
You will see one or more pods (group of virtual machines). Place your cursor on the time you wish to do
your lab in one of the pods. If you want to start it right away, get as close to the red line as you can. If
you can't schedule if for Now, you will have to wait until the scheduled start time, and select Refresh
(under the Lab Reservations box) to get the Enter Lab button.
When you are ready to start your lab, click on the Enter Lab button and wait for all the virtual machines to
load. Some will take longer than others - depends on the number of VMs that have to load. You will see
Initializing until everything is ready. Look in the lower right corner of the screen - under the lab topology
the Show Lab Content button to open the lab instructions that go with the lab you selected. Follow the
instructions in that document to complete the lab. When you complete the lab, please select the I'm Done
button to close the scheduled lab reservation so the labs can be made available to someone else.
Please contact your Instructor or [email protected] if you have problems logging in.
