VOLLEYBALL AUSTRALIA AIS WOMEN’S INDOOR CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE HEAD COACH Volleyball Australia is pleased to announce that the Women Volleyroos Head Coach Shannon Winzer will lead the establishment of the new VA AIS Women’s Centre of Excellence as its Head Coach, when it commences in Canberra in early 2017. Shannon will re-locate from Melbourne to Canberra to lead the new program in its inception, including recruiting the first athletes to come to the Centre. More than 40 players from throughout Australia have applied to be part of this new venture, and invitations to up to 22 players will be despatched this week. There were 31 applicants for the Head Coach role from overseas and within Australia. With a number of current Volleyroos applying to come to the Centre, and with her willingness to re-locate, as well as her coaching record, the appointment of Shannon was a clear one as the inaugural Head Coach. Shannon coached the Volleyroos in the FIVB Women’s Grand Prix this year, after being an Assistant Coach in 2014 and 2015. She coached the winning WAVL team (University Blues) for 3 years from 2013 to 2015. She has had playing experience in Australia, the UK and her native Canada, including two years in the Volleyroos. She is married with three children and is a Graduate of the University of British Columbia and Deakin University. The Women’s Centre of Excellence will work closely with the existing Men’s Centre of Excellence based at the AIS, and will be supported by AIS staff and resources.
