the grant process - Allen Neighborhood Center

THE GRANT PROCESS
1. Read the grant form carefully, call me to have anything clarified or to see if
the project you have in mind will qualify if you are unsure. You can reach
me at 367-2468 (not on Wednesdays).
2. Once you have determined the project will qualify for grant funds, contact
a contractor(s) to get a bid(s) or price out the materials you plan on using.
3. Once you feel you have a solid idea of what the job will cost, fill out the
budget portion of the application; include a copy of the bid(s) or the price
work sheet that you used to get to the budget.
4. Fill out the entire grant application, front and back.
5. If you own the building: Get copies of your deed, and current tax receipt
(you can do this on-line with the County).
6. If you rent the space: Get a copy of your current lease and a letter from
your landlord stating that they approve of the project.
7. Place all of these items in an envelope and either drop it off or mail it to
ANC @ 1619 E. Kalamazoo St. Lansing, MI 48912
8. After the application has been reviewed by the committee, a (yellow) letter
of acceptance or denial will be sent to you, this will take three to ten
business days. This yellow letter is your approval to start your project. This
letter will state how much grant money you can receive and a project
completion date. If you need an extension of this date, you must notify me
in writing.
9. You will sign one copy of the letter and return it to me, the other one is for
your files.
10. We will deliver a placard to display in your window giving credit to our
sponsors.
11. The grant money is “matched” by your funds. This means that you must
spend your money first, prove that your money has been spent by turning in
copies of the receipts AND the checks written to pay them. After we have all
of the copies for your half of the budget, we will be ready to pay out our half.
12. When you are ready for us to pay out grant funds, you will either submit
copies of the checks and receipts for reimbursement or turn in the
contractors bills for us to pay directly.
13. We will be checking in on the project periodically, making sure that
everything is going as planned, etc…
14. After your project is completed we will we will send you a completion letter.
15. We may also choose your project for a press release or a tour for our
funding partners.
