Sources of data

Template for April 15, 2009 Meeting
for Online, Gateway and Advisement
Teams.
Four Parts of Report
1.
Findings – summary statements that define key issues. 5-10 findings would be
ideal – no more than 20.
2.
Sources of data – sources of data that led you to your findings. Arrange with each
finding.
3.
Recommendations – what you intend to do about the findings/problems. Some
recommendations may cover more than one finding. Please indicate which findings
are addressed by a finding in a parentheses after the recommendation. No finding
should be unaddressed.
4.
Measurements – what measures should the college use to monitor progress? At
least one outcome measure should be included (i.e. gateway course success), but
activity or process measures can also be included ( i.e. number of students who
receive online orientation)
5.
To make the report flow more smoothly, I recommend you have a Findings Section,
followed by a Recommendation Section followed by a Measurement Section.

Example - Findings
Finding #3: 42% of students surveyed said that they were
unprepared to take online courses. In follow-up interviews and
focus groups, many indicated that they believed online courses
would be “easier” than traditional courses.
Data Sources: Survey with 230 responses and focus groups.
3
Example Cont’d - Recommendations
Recommendation #2: Implement an online orientation course
including Angel training and computer literacy fundamentals for all
students who are taking an online course at OCCC for the first
time. (Findings 3 and 4).
4
Example Cont’d. - Measurements
1. Successful online course completion.
2. Number of students who take online orientation.
3. Number of faculty who take Angel training
