December 5, 2014 TO: Subscribers to UL’s Listing Service for Rubber Gasketed Fittings – UL 213; Grooved and Plain End Fittings – UL 213C SUBJECT: Extension of the Effective Date for Rubber Gasketed Fittings – UL 213; Grooved and Plain End Fittings – UL 213C with an Effective Date of August 3, 2015 During the recent publishing of UL 213 and UL 213C, revised paragraphs in these Standards updated the definition of standard grooves as complying with ISO 6182-12. These requirements were published with a future Effective Date of August 3, 2015 (see below). UL213 5.5 STANDARD GROOVES - Dimensions of the pipe, fitting, or valve end specified by the rubber gasketed fitting manufacturer that complies with the dimensions of Fire protection - Automatic sprinkler systems - Part 12: Requirements and test methods for grooved-end components for steel pipe systems, ISO 6182-12, for cut, rolled and cast grooves, intended for use with a groove type rubber gasketed fitting to join pipe, fittings, or valves, fittings, or valves. UL213C 5.7 STANDARD GROOVES - Dimensions of the grooved end, fitting specified by the rubber gasketed fitting manufacturer that complies with the dimensions of the Standard for Fire protection - Automatic sprinkler systems - Part 12: Requirements and test methods for grooved-end components for steel pipe systems, ISO 6182-12, for cut, rolled and cast grooves, intended for use with a groove type rubber gasketed fitting to join the fittings UL is aware that the standard referenced within UL 213 and UL 213C for assessing groove dimensions, ISO 6182-12 - Requirements and Test Methods for Grooved-End Components for Steel Pipe Systems, is currently under revision. Some of the dimensional requirements are expected to be revised by the end of 2015. In consideration of these planned changes, UL is extending the effective date of the review of UL Listed products from August 3, 2015 to August 3, 2017 for products in categories VIZM - Rubber Gasketed Fittings and VIZA – Grooved and Plain End Fittings. By extending the effective date for these standards, UL will be able to wait for the finalized version of ISO 6182-12 to be in place prior to reviewing the UL Listed products for the standardized groove dimensions. It is anticipated that all assessments and resulting revisions will be completed no later than August 3, 2017 provided that all resubmittal information is received at UL no later than January 1, 2017. Revisions to UL Follow-Up Procedures, including deletion of models and specific constructions on the previous Effective Date, resulting from Applicant requests or prior investigation of products by UL will remain in place unless an Applicant specifically requests that UL reverse such revisions.
