POSITION: MECHANICAL ENGINEER TRAINEE (4 POSTS)
REPORT TO: PRINCIPAL ENGINEER
WORKSTATION: KINYEREZI II POWER PLANT
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Responsible for supervising the proper maintenance of all mechanical equipment at the plant to ensure safe and optimal
availability of the plant.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Plan, execute, control and review maintenance programs of related installations the focus of which shall be to optimize
contribution of the plant units to the grid system under operating conditions.
b) Performing scheduled maintenance duties to all mechanical related infrastructures in accordance to available software
and standards. Break downs to be attended promptly.
c)
Ensure and supervise proper practice of all company safety rules and regulations when carrying out maintenance
activities. The target must be to maximize safety of both personnel and equipment.
d)
Carrying out routine inspection of all mechanical installation and report any deviations from the required threshold
operating thresholds.
e)
Preparing and submitting spare parts requirements of all mechanical installations timely enough to ensure continuous
operations of the installations. Annual budget requirements to be submitted promptly.

POSITION: PLANNING ENGINEER TRAINEE (2 POSTS)
REPORT TO: PRINCIPAL ENGINEER
WORKSTATION: KIDATU & MTERA HYDRO POWER PLANTS
POSITION OBJECTIVE
To Plan and Coordinate all maintenance activities to ensure that the generating units and other equipment’s are in good
working condition.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Planning and coordinate all Preventive maintenance works to generating units and other plant installations as per
manufacturer’s recommendation.
b) Effective use of Computerized Maintenance Management System (Job-Tech) in preparation of works order and reporting
execution of Preventive Maintenance works.
c) Proper planning of corrective works while ensuring minimal plant downtimes.
d) Compile Preventive and corrective maintenance activities that require unit shut down and prepare schedule to facilitate
requests from Grid Control Centre.
e) Asses condition of equipment and advise on rescheduling maintenance frequencies.
f) Ensure availability of critical spare parts for smooth and continuous operation of power plant. You will be required to
prepare and update inventory for critical spares.
g) Participate in preparation of Generation yearly budget and ensure optimal utilization of the same.
h) Preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually maintenance reports and ensure timely submissions of the same.
i) Proper use and upkeep of all operation and maintenance manuals and drawings.

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Responsible for implementation of plans in execution of electrical installation at powerhouse, switchyard, dam site, and camps
are carried out effectively and efficiently.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

POSITION: ELECTRICAL ENGINEER TRAINEE (1 POST)
REPORT TO: ZONAL PRINCIPAL DISTRIBUTION ENGINEER
WORKSTATION: ZONAL OFFICE - DAR ES SALAAM & COAST ZONE
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Assist to perform design, planning implementation of power distribution works including; project planning, network
construction, effective maintenance of distribution networks, service line connections as well as minimizing both technical and
non-technical energy losses as per standards set by the company.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Assist to Plan and monitor construction of distribution network in the region/districts to ensure compliance with the
approved TANESCO Engineering Instructions Manual.
b) Carry out preventive maintenance and repair of the distribution network to avoid technical losses and ensure security,
reliability, quality and safety of electric power supply.
c) Forecast the load growth in the region to ensure that distribution system and equipment are not overloaded.
d) Maintain up-to date maps and system drawings showing Medium Voltage and Low Voltage together with substations to
ensure proper system database is maintained.
e) Design, develop and maintain electrical control system and/or components to required specifications, focusing on
economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability.
f) Ensure Safety of staff and equipment at all times and make sure that “Risk assessment” is conducted before carrying out
any work as per standing TANESCO safety provisions.
g) Timely respond and replace defective energy meters immediately once reported or revealed during inspection, calculate
revenue loss and ensure payments are made.

POSITION: LAND SUVEYOR (2 POSTS)
REPORT TO: ZONAL PRINCIPAL DISTRIBUTION ENGINEER
WORKSTATION: ZONAL OFFICE - DAR ES SALAAM & COAST ZONE (1) AND LAKE ZONE (1)
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Undertake survey activities and Planning for Electricity distribution projects within the zone to ensure distribution networks are
constructed as per Engineering Instructions and Company Policies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Carry out surveying and mapping studies for the company’s activities to make sure that electric distribution projects’
plans, design, infrastructures are implemented professionally.
b) Verify the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
c) Follow up and review the survey and mapping studies carried out on behalf of the company by external consultants and
ensure that they adequately conform to policies.
d) Develops new data from photogrammetric, remote sensing records (aerial lidar survey, satellite).
e) Assist in developing Land management guidelines and programs for the Company’s undertakings in collaboration with
the relevant Government Authorities.
f) Ensure proper Land information management of the company infrastructures is established and maintained.
g) Assist in developing, establishing and implementation of the Land management system i.e. policy, guidelines and
programs of the Company’s undertakings in collaboration with the relevant business units in the company as well as the
relevant Government Authorities.
KEY KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE JOB
 Bachelor degree in Land Surveying, or equivalent.

6.
POSITION: ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN – SYSTEM OPERATORS (10 POSTS)
REPORT TO: SUBSTATION SUPERVISOR /ENGINEER
WORKSTATIONS: HEAD OFFICE AND REGIONS
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Grid System monitoring to ensure that a continuous and reliable flow of electric power supply from generating plants to various
places of grid destination and distribution points are maintained
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Collect all necessary initial technical data in the daily log sheets and defect register book.
b) Issue permits to work, limitation of access, sanction of test after proper Isolation of equipment at switch yard before
people start working to ensure highest safety standards are observed and maintained all the times in order to preserve
life and property.
c) Maintain close liaison with Grid Control center (GCC), Generating plants stations and other grid substation Operators to
ensure smooth restoration of power supply in case of System power failure.
d) Report a day recorded shift events to Substation supervisor/Engineer to ensure the higher authority get informed for
record and action.

POSITION: ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN (3 POSTS)
REPORTS TO: ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
WORK STATIONS: ARUSHA (1) AND TANGA (2).
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Implements all scheduled activities and work plans including, construction and maintenance of distribution networks effectively
and efficiently.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Construct and maintain distribution lines network in accordance with the company procedures and standards to ensure
access to electricity is maximized.
b) Inspect customers' installations to ensure standards set for safety and quality of installations are met and security of supply
is guaranteed.
c) Assist supervisor/engineer in preparing short & long term plans construction/maintenance schedules for expansion of
distribution network to increase the pace of electrification.
d) Closely monitor load growth on secondary sub-station through periodic measurement to ensure that distribution lines and
equipment’s are not overloaded.
e) To conduct routine inspection of distribution lines and perform preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure
continuity of supply to customers is maintained.
f) Record periodic electrical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment which fails to
meet acceptable operating standards.

POSITION: MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN (5 POSTS)
REPORTS TO: GENERATION ENGINEER
WORKSTATIONS: PANGANI HYDRO SYSTEMS (HALE, NEW PANGANI FALLS AND NYUMBA YA MUNGU HYDRO
PLANTS) AND MTERA (1)
POSITION OBJECTIVE
To ensure smooth operation and maintenance of all electromechanical equipment at the plant.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Performing minor and major maintenance, adjustments and repairs on mechanical equipment including pumps to ensure
smooth operation of the plant.
b)
Conducting thorough inspection of generating sets and their accessories and report any defects to maintenance
Supervisor for carrying out remedies to minimize plant downtimes.
Participate in implementation of major repair and maintenance activities of the plant to maintain continuity in power
generation.
Ensure company safety rules, standards and regulations are adhered to all the time and proper safe guards are
established and maintained to protect the interest of the company in relation to the reliability of plants, the safety of
personnel and security of the equipment.
Carrying out visual inspection of equipment and instruments and to report any faults and defects for immediate

POSITION: MOTOR VEHICLE TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
REPORTS TO: MECHANICAL ENGINEER
WORKSTATION: MTERA HYDRO POWER PLANT
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Responsible for organizing the repair and maintenance of all Company Motor Vehicles at the plant and advising on the best
course of action to be taken to ensure that all company vehicles are maintained in the cost effective manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Ensures all company motor vehicles comply with the maintenance and services schedules and perform all the duties
related to the repair in timely manner.
b) To perform all workshop/garage paper works for procurement matters such as initiating Repair and
Maintenance(R&M) works Order and raising RTP’s (Requisition To Purchase)
c) To prepare weekly and monthly motor vehicles reports and checkups so as to prevent breakdowns and ensure
maximum availability to all company vehicles
d) To observe all safety rules before attempting any assignment and maintain standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
e) Management of company tools by daily use of record book and cross checking after closure of business to ensure good
control of company tools.
f) To ensure the working area (workshop/garage) is always clean to avoid accidents.
g) To supervise and coordinate all workshop/garage activities to ensure quality works and meet timetables.

10. POSITION: CIVIL TECHNICIAN (1 POST)
REPORT TO: CIVIL ENGINEER
WORKSTATION: MTERA HYDRO POWER PLANT
POSITION OBJECTIVE
To ensure that all scheduled activities related to civil works at the plant are carried out effectively and efficiently.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Prepare weekly maintenance Schedules and depict them on notice board for subordinates to realize the works has to
execute daily.
b) Ensure preventive maintenance of all civil structure is executed as per schedule and that emergency breakdowns are
attended timely.
c) Make sure that maintenance record sheets are filled daily after execution of maintenance (both PM & Emergency
breakdowns) works.
d) Ensure availability of adequate tools for civil maintenance.
e) Initiate RTPs and SIVs for regular needs of materials and spare parts. Also you will be responsible to initiate appropriate
works orders (CWOs and R& M) as per approved budgets and forward them for approval and authorization. .

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Responsible for execution of all planned maintenance works of Telecommunication system in plants, grid, distribution
substations and offices, with objective of ensuring smooth operational communication within plant.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Assist in inspecting, testing electronic and communication system to ascertain their condition and operation status.
b) Plan, organize and supervise the maintenance and repair work on the relevant existing company infrastructure and/or
equipment in accordance with the laid down procedures.
c) Participate in the execution of maintenance works in a planned time to ensure emergence breakdown are avoided.
d) Preparation of working drawings and specification of new works to be undertaken by Engineer.
e) Keep maintenance records, equipment status updating and observe reporting system to ensure a good data base and
communication system.
f) To supervise construction installation, testing and commissioning of new company works in accordance with approved
plans and company regulations/Standard
g) Responsible for safety to personnel and security of equipment tools and vehicles under him/her ensuring that the
company’s safety rules are observed at all time, an up to date register of safety equipment tools and testing equipment
should be maintained.

WORKSTATION: SOUTH WEST HIGHLADS ZONE, MBEYA
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Assist Protection Engineer to carry out planned preventive maintenance of all electrical equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Installing, maintenance and troubleshooting protective relays
b) Test, repair and calibration of protective relay in Testing of elements in power system such as transformers, current
transformers and voltage transformers
c) Troubleshoot faulty control circuits of switchgears
d) Assist Protection Engineer in carrying out of commissioning of electrical plants

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Responsible for execution of all electrical maintenance works/activities in the Power Plants, with objective of ensuring smooth
operational of power generating equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
h) Respond promptly to emergence calls during emergence breakdowns to ensure restoration of fault equipment within
minimum time possible.
i) Attend the plant Maintenance works as schedule, keep maintenance records, equipment status updating and submit
work reports after repairs or preventive maintenance.
j) Ensure all the control cubicles in control room, relay room and entrance building are locked, free from dust and cobwebs
on the outside and inside, also make sure all the equipment in these cubicles are in a good order .
k) Reading and interpreting all drawings and manuals necessary for smooth execution of the plants.
l) Execute properly preventive maintenance of electrical equipment in a planned time to ensure emergence breakdowns
are avoided.
m) Responsible for going through the defect book in control room and attend defects recorded in the defect book.
n) Identify all faults/defects of the equipment and carry out necessary repairs.
o) Also responsible for carrying out installation and testing of new electrical equipment.
p) Observe safety regulations when carrying out maintenance duties to ensure no accidents to people and equipment.

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Responsible for maintenance and development of all ICT equipment and the provision of technical advice and support for ICT
related activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Install new software and hardware and ensure virus protection is kept up to date.
b) Secure security code and ensure the safe set-up of new equipment.
c) Develop a maintenance schedule administer preventive maintenance to Plant system hardware and Software
d) General control of Plant systems operations and assist Planning Engineer in Creation of maintenance plans and works
orders in CMMS (Jobtech).

15. POSITION: SYSTEM TECHNICIAN CUM ADMINISTRATOR (5 POSTS)
REPORTS TO: SOFTWARE ENGINEER – DMS
WORK STATION: DISTRIBUTION CONTROL CENTRE (DCC)
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Monitoring and controlling the medium voltage (33/11 kV) distribution network within the zone and ensure reliable and
available power to customers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) System software maintenance, system security, system administration and the data acquisition application on the
Front-End Processor (FEP)
b) To make sure that distribution network is well controlled and monitored at optimal level to maintain reliable and high
quality electric supply.
c) To assist on assessing the network and formulation of the short term and medium term distribution network planning and
design
d) Perform network analysis, such as load flow and topology analysis to assist the Operator in determining the security and
operational readiness of the distribution network.
e) To assist on simulation of the distribution network in real time using application software incorporated in SCADA/POWER
ON FUSION system, to Support the design proposals for the distribution associated projects.
f) To aid the Operator in the use of the analysis applications to ensure observe of the distribution system and to aid in
interpretation of analysis results.

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Provide technical surveying and mapping service in surveying measurements, data collection and analysis including
management, maintenance and repair of surveying and plotting instruments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Carry out surveying and mapping field work including data collection together with in situ checks of control points.
b) Interpret field results and present field work reports.
c) Take care and repair field equipment and tools.
d) Plan, organise, mobilization and supervise field work programs including demarcation works to ensure acquisition land
and corridors for substation and transmission lines.
e) Prepare budgets for Surveying and mapping activities.
f) Assist the Land Surveyors in survey and mapping data collection, compilation and analysis using appropriate methods

g) Undertake special assignments in GIS and other modern tools in surveying and mapping analysis including digitising

17. POSITION: FITTER AND TURNER (2 POSTS)

POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Maintenance of plant machinery to ensure smooth running of all plant machinery and equipment at the station by adhering to
Plant Preventive maintenance schedule.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Repair all plant machinery under the directives from the mechanical technician
