Only residents in the area of Southampton City Council are eligible for the
Reward Scheme.
Residents will be entered into the monthly prize draw if their recycling bin
contains only the right items (I.e. paper, cardboard, food tins, drink cans,
empty aerosols and plastic bottles) on two consecutive occasions in one
month.
Recycling bins must be presented for collection on your specified
collection day every fortnight (and only contain the correct items) to be
entered into the monthly prize draw.
Potential reward prize winners will be selected at random and we will
carry out a follow up check on your recycling bin to make sure that you
are still recycling the right things. Residents will not be entitled to a
reward if their recycling bin contains items that we can’t take for
recycling.
Items that we can’t take for recycling include:
 Black sacks and plastic bags
 General rubbish such as electrical appliances or tools
 Glass
 Food waste
 Garden waste
 Textiles (inc. clothes and shoes)
 Foil and crisp packets
 Shredded paper
 Wrapping paper

Plastic other than plastic bottles (e.g. yoghurt pots, margarine
tubs, cling film, food trays etc)

Polystyrene

Tetrapaks
The decision regarding whether a blue-lidded bin contains items that can’t
be collected for recycling and hence is not eligible for a reward will be
made by the City Council. This decision will be final, and no
correspondence will be entered into.
Reward prize draw winners will be notified by letter within 14 days of the
draw.
Prize draw winners will be able to select from a range of different rewards
which will be provided by either the City Council or a commercial
organisation.
Your must contact the City Council to let us know which reward you would
like within 4 weeks of being notified that you are a winner.
Whilst every effort will be made to provide the reward chosen, the City
Council reserves the right to make changes to the reward menu without
notice. If your chosen reward is no longer available, you will be able to
select an alternative from the current menu.

The reward is given in the form of a voucher, letter or other written
communication, from the organisation providing the reward.
The rewards are subject to the individual terms and conditions of the
organisation providing the reward.
The reward has a cash value of £30 but the user value maybe higher.
There is no cash alternative in place of the voucher – (except for donated
prizes)
Rewards, once issued, are the responsibility of the reward winner. We will
not replace any lost or damaged rewards.
Tea with the Mayor is for four people, in the Mayors parlour with the
current Mayor of Southampton. As the Mayor has a very full diary, this
may be subject to change at short notice, due to ill health, urgent council
business etc. In these circumstances an alternative date will be agreed or
a different reward may be selected.
Rewards can be donated to your local school or community group but the
group must be open to all sectors of the community and not discriminate
on the basis of race, colour, national and ethnic origin, culture or faith,
gender, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or gender identity,
marital status, responsibility for dependents, disability, physical or
sensory impairments, learning disabilities, mental health problems, HIV
status, low income or age.
The final decision regarding whether a nominated school or community
group can receive the reward donation will be made by the City Council.
This decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
Donated rewards will be presented directly to the chosen community
group, providing they hold an appropriate bank account and have
evidence of financial monitoring.
Rewards cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.
Reward prize winners may be required to participate in publicity
connected with this recycling reward scheme. It is a condition that reward
prize winners agree to their name and area of residence being made
publicly available if they win.
The Council reserves the right to draw an alternative winner in the event
that it is reasonably believed that a resident is in breach of these terms
and conditions.
The Council reserves the right to vary these terms and conditions at any
time.
