Hancock Girls Bowling Team Wins Section IV Class D Championships By Bill Gleim Coach After a frustrating second half of the winter high school bowling season, the Lady Cats had their biggest win in over 15 years by claiming the Section Title at Midway Lanes on Friday, February 12. Cruising through the first half of the season in first place the girls ran into some bad luck, bad timing, and two very strong and greatly improved teams in Oxford and Bainbridge-Guilford. They finished in second place in the league by only 18 pins and one game to B-G and lost to Oxford in the Mac Championship tournament by only 32 pins. With one last shot at redemption for their season at the Sectional Championships, the girls proved that they were not only the best team in the league but the best team in their class in Section IV. In fact, the girls’ score would have been good enough to take Class C as well. The team finished 8th overall out of 29 teams beating teams from Class A and B as well. The team was led by All Stars Kayla Smith, Trisha McElroy, Brooke Rosengrant, with Cassandra Schoonmaker and Rachel Hanstine filling out the roster. The girls will be heading to Norwich to try and earn a spot in the State Tournament. The Lady Cats will have to make up 180 pins to a Class A defending champ Horseheads team in a tough six game tournament. Good Luck, Cats!! Season stats for the girls: Kayla Smith 173 average; high game 267, high series 644 Trisha McElroy 172 average; high game 253, high series 603 Brooke Rosengrant 170 average; high game 215, high series 594 Cassandra Schoonmaker high game 203, high series 546 Rachel Hanstine high game 209 Supersub Sara Hanstine had a high game of 189 Congratulations!!
