Depositing and Collecting Samples
Mind the step when entering.
This room is not locked so you are free to deposit/collect samples from here as long as you
also fill out the sample deposit form and return it (available from the EAL staff). Samples
should be clearly labelled in sturdy boxes/containers and should be of sensible weight so as
not to pose a large manual handling hazard. Boxes were possible should be stacked in a safe
manner on the racking and not left on the floor. Any items that have to stay on the floor
should not reduce access/egress or present a trip hazard. Heavier and bulky items should be
stored on the lower shelves only. There is no need to close the door fully when
depositing/collecting samples but you should minimise your time in the cold room.
Quarterly organising and tidying
Mind the step when entering.
Sample stored in the room are checked of against the deposit forms and samples passed
there storage data will be removed once the owner has been contacted. Where possible any
samples stored badly (not on racking, poorly boxed) will be correctly stored.
Due to the increased time in the room appropriate gloves and clothing should be worm and
the activity should be either carried out by multiple people or others should be aware of the
activity and check frequently on the person doing the task.

Due to the increased time in the room appropriate gloves and clothing should be worm and
the activity should be carried out by multiple people. However you should not spend
prolonged amounts of time (>20min) in the cold room before exiting and seeking a warm
refuge to allow your body to recover.
No Chemicals or scientific glassware is to be stored in any cold room.
