What are we learning about this term?
Dear Parent this is what we are learning about this term. We hope this helps you to support your child’s learning at home.
Communication, Language and Languages –.– In
Literacy we will be learning how to write a recount of
our holidays and learn about alphabetical order and
understand a dictionary.
Historical, Geographical and social understanding – We will
be looking at maps and trying to find out where we live. We will be
having a walk around the area and thinking about different types of
houses and amenities. We will also be thinking about houses in the
past with Magic Grandad. In Design and Technology we will create
junk model houses and shops to create a big class display of Sutton
– In – Ashfield. In History we are also going to be completing a
huge project on Queen Elizabeth II – finding out what is her role
and what she dies?
Understanding physical development, health and
well being – We will be dancing in PE to the story The
Blue Balloon and Peter and The Wolf. Games is also are
other topic in PE and our ball skills in hockey and football
will develop.

Year 1
Mathematical understanding – In maths we will be
concentrating on the 10 times table. We will be looking at the
calculation of subtraction and try to fit it into our math’s
work. We will also be looking at money and paying for items
in the Garden Centre.
Understanding the Arts – We are going to be completing
lots of art in class and you will see it on our walls. Also in art
we are going to be drawing and colouring the picture
Sunflowers by Van Gough.
Scientific and technological understanding – We will
complete a big topic in Science this term – plants and
animals. We will be growing various vegetables; potatoes
and Brussels. Discussing where food comes from and then
creating a display in our classroom on plants and parts of a
flower. You will even be able to come into our role play are
and play in the garden centre. In ICT we will be taking
photographs and putting them onto the computer.
