SYMPTOM
When going up or down, the front door glass stops and
reverses, shudders, or makes noise.

There’s excessive friction in the glass run channel
caused by the door glass inner weatherstrip, or there’s
a problem in the door glass regulator.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Depending on the diagnosis, replace the door glass
inner weatherstrip, the door glass run channel, or the
door glass regulator.

the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone
Office. You must request consideration, and get a
decision, before starting work.
DIAGNOSIS
Park the vehicle in a quiet location. Raise and lower
both front door windows in the Auto Up and Auto Down
modes several times to determine the cause of the
noise.
• If the door glass stops, then reverses direction in the
Auto Up mode, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE A.
• If the door glass is slow or shudders when going up,
go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B.
• If the door glass regulator is noisy or has a repeating
sound, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE C.

REPAIR PROCEDURE A
1. Remove the front door panel:
• Refer to section 20 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keywords DOOR PANEL, and
select Front Door Panel Removal/Installation
from the list.
2. Move the front door glass up and down using the
Auto Up/Auto Down feature.
• If the door glass moves freely, go to step 3.
• If the door glass still reverses direction or stops,
go to step 4.
5. Check the door glass inner weatherstrip for proper
length. The end of the weatherstrip should be even
with the door panel. If the weatherstrip is too long,
replace it.
• Refer to section 20 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keyword WEATHERSTRIP, and
select Doors Component Location Index Front Door from the list.
The weatherstrip should
not extend past the edge
of the door panel.
3. Replace the door glass inner weatherstrip and the
door glass run channel, then go to step 6:
• Refer to section 20 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keyword WEATHERSTRIP, and
select Doors Component Location Index Front Door from the list.
4. Replace the door glass regulator and the glass run
channel:
• Refer to section 20 of the appropriate service
manual, or
WEATHERSTRIP
• Online, enter keyword REGULATOR, and select
Front Door Glass and Regulator Replacement
from the list.
6. Reset the power window control unit:
• Refer to section 22 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keywords WINDOW CONTROL
UNIT, and select Power Window Control Unit

REPAIR PROCEDURE C
1. Remove the front door panel and the plastic cover:
1. Remove the front door panel, the plastic cover, and
the door glass regulator:
• Refer to section 20 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Refer to section 20 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keywords DOOR PANEL, and
select Front Door Panel Removal/Installation
from the list.
2. Replace the glass run channel, and check the door
glass inner weatherstrip for proper length. If the
weatherstrip is too long, replace it (refer to step 5 of
REPAIR PROCEDURE A).
3. Reset the power window control unit:
• Refer to section 22 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keywords WINDOW CONTROL
UNIT, and select Power Window Control Unit
Reset from the list.
4. Recheck for slow door glass operation or shudder.
If the door glass is still slow or shudders, replace
the door glass regulator:
• Refer to section 20 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keyword REGULATOR, and select
Front Door Glass and Regulator Replacement
from the list.
5. Reset the power window control unit:
• Refer to section 22 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keyword REGULATOR, and select
Front Door Glass and Regulator Replacement
from the list.
2. Replace the door glass run channel, and check the
door glass inner weatherstrip for proper length. The
end of the weatherstrip should be even with the
door panel. If the weatherstrip is too long, replace it
(refer to step 5 of REPAIR PROCEDURE A).
3. Install a new door glass regulator, and reassemble
the remaining parts in the reverse order:
• Refer to section 20 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keyword REGULATOR, and select
Front Door Glass and Regulator Replacement
from the list.
4. Reset the power window control unit:
• Refer to section 22 of the appropriate service
manual, or
• Online, enter keywords WINDOW CONTROL
UNIT, and select Power Window Control Unit
Reset from the list.
• Online, enter keywords WINDOW CONTROL
UNIT, and select Power Window Control Unit
