The Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department held their first “Funds Raiser Table Tennis Tournament” on May 16th, 2009. This tournament was held at the Fricker Community Center at 900 N. ‘E’ Street in Pensacola. The non sanctioned tournament was held for our Club’s home facility (Fricker Community Center) to raise funds to aid kids getting into programs they would not other wise be able to participate in. Table Tennis/ Ping Pong is an Olympic Sport and it is fun and exciting for all ages. We are a non-profit club looking to increase the public participation in this fast action non contact sport. We have had kids tell us it was more fun than video games. Kids and Beginners “Fun Play” nights are on Mondays 6-9:pm. Intermediate to Advanced “Athletic Play” nights is Thursdays 69: pm. We have plenty of tables and invite all that are interested in having fun to come play with us. The last match of the day was no different as two sluggers battled it out for Division B championship. Mississippi State University players were the big winners with each entry taking home a trophy. I find it interesting to note that the second place finishers in Divisions “A & B” were the same last time as they are this time. Keep trying guys…ha..ha.. Congratulations to Willy Leparulo for taking the top prize in the Advanced Open Division out lasting all contenders with his brilliant and consistent play. Pictures taken at the event are displayed for you to see on our web site link. Go there to see all the fun and action we had. http://pensacolatabletennis.tripod.com Our next tournament will be a USATT sanctioned one star tournament on July 25th, 2009. Look for the entry forms to be sent and posted on our web site. Thanks, L.A. Johnston (Pensacola Table Tennis Club)
