It is with great pleasure that we announce the release of:
XProtect® Access Control Module 2014
Successfully uniting access control and video into one powerful security solution, Milestone
introduces XProtect Access Control Module, an add-on product to Milestone XProtect video
management software (VMS). Extending the capabilities of the Milestone Integration Platform,
XProtect Access Control Module enables easy integration of third-party access control solutions
with Milestone video management solutions. XProtect® Smart Client users have a consolidated
interface to operate access control systems with dedicated functions to effectively monitor access
events, manually assist passages and conduct investigations on specific access points or
cardholders. XProtect Access Control Module 2014 is supported by all Milestone video
management products supporting the Milestone Integration Platform Software Development Kit
2014 (MIP SDK 2014).
XProtect Access Control Module offers a new and more efficient way to operate access control and
video surveillance systems through a unified interface, XProtect Smart Client. Providing the
primary and most commonly used access control functions as an integral part of XProtect Smart
Client, XProtect Access Control Module eliminates the need for users to work with multiple
independent systems.
Key features in XProtect Access Control Module 2014
XProtect Smart Client integrates with multiple access control systems, even if different systems
are used throughout the installation. Users can control the various integrated systems and
functions through the one single interface, XProtect Smart Client:
•
Access monitor
A new access monitor view item presents a combined camera view and an event list
displaying events from a defined access point. The access monitor view item can be used in
any XProtect Smart Client view

The access monitor displays real-time door statuses, such as locked, unlocked, closed and
open, and provides control functions for the defined access point
•
The access event list provides real-time cardholder information including a cardholder image
for the person identified at a door. The presented cardholder details depends on actual
information provided by the integrated access control system
•
Access monitor view items can be used in independent playback, where the event list with
cardholder information, can be used to play back the video sequence related to a specific
passage event. A short cut in the cardholder information makes it possible to show an
access event list in the Access Control tab including all access events for the selected
cardholder
•
Access request notification
XProtect Access Control Module 2014 offers an access request notification flyout that is
triggered based on selected access events (for example, door bells and error events in
conjunction with cardholder identification) and presented to XProtect Smart Client users
even when XProtect Smart Client is running in the background or minimized
•
The request notification flyout includes cardholder information, according to availability, and
presents the operator with live video from cameras associated to the access point
•
Integrated audio support allows the XProtect Smart Client operator to invoke a two-way
audio session with the person by the access point triggering access request notification 1
•
The XProtect Smart Client operator has direct visibility of the status of the access point and
the ability to remotely control (for example, unlock and open) the access point
•
Access Control tab
A new dedicated Access Control tab provides an overview of access events reported to
XProtect Access Control Module and provides a link between the access event and possible
cameras associated with the access point
•
The access event list operates both in a live mode, in which events can be displayed as they
occur, and in an investigation mode
•
Extensive filtering functions on access points, cardholders, event types and time make
investigations easy with wide possibilities for analysis and data drilling
•
Immediate access to related video makes it possible to instantly review recorded video
related to any access event
•
Detailed and more extensive investigations of specific events can be done by launching a
full playback window with time navigation for the given event. It is also possible to include
additional cameras in the investigation and easily produce evidence material for a given
event
•
Built-in reporting support makes it easy to print an access event report based on the data
analysis in the event list. The report is generated as a PDF and includes event details and a
video thumbnail from cameras associated to the access point for the given event time

Integration with generic XProtect Smart Client functions
• XProtect Access Control Module 2014 is seamlessly integrated with XProtect Smart Client
2014, and availability of XProtect Access Control Module in XProtect Smart Client can be
controlled by the application settings and XProtect Smart Client profiles
•
Doors and their events and statuses can be displayed in maps, and XProtect Smart Client
users can directly control doors (perform open, lock, and other operations supported by the
integrated access control system) via the map
•
Events from integrated access control systems can be used to generate alarms in the Alarm
Manager
Administration
XProtect Access Control Module is administrated as an integral part of the management interface
of the chosen XProtect VMS product.
The following main functions are available:
•
Mapping of access points and associated cameras in the Milestone video management
system
•
Categorization of access control events
•
Cardholder listing with the ability to complement cardholder details defined in the integrated
access control system with cardholder picture
•
Access request notification configuration including triggering events and available access
controls
XProtect Access Control Module 2014 licensing
XProtect Access Control Module is licensed according to the following:
•
A base license (XPACBL) which unlocks all functions related to XProtect Access Control
Module. The base license includes one door license (XPACDL) for two physical doors
•
A door license (XPACDL) enables two physical doors in XProtect Access Control Module
•
XProtect Access Control Module integration plug-ins are primarily developed and provided
by Milestone Solution Partners. Partner-developed integration plug-ins may be subject to
separate licensing from the respective partners
•
Standard integration plug-ins developed by Milestone are, as default, not licensed
separately. Milestone may however decide to license customer or project-specific integration
plug-ins
XProtect Access Control Module system requirements
There are no specific system requirements for XProtect Access Control Module because it is an
integral part of the Milestone video management solution. Please refer to the normal system and
operating system requirements for the Milestone video management solution that XProtect Access

Supported languages
The operator interface of XProtect Access Control Module is localized to the same languages as
XProtect Smart Client. The management interface is localized to the same languages as the
Milestone video management product that XProtect Access Control Module is being used with. For

Supported access control systems
The plug-in based integration framework available in the MIP SDK 2014 allows partners to easily
integrate their access control systems with XProtect Access Control Module.

Installation
XProtect Access Control Module is embedded in the main Milestone VMS solution and does not
require separate installation.
As a part of the general installation, a separate install of the access control integration plug-ins
for the access control system(s) that the Milestone VMS solution will operate with is needed. The
integration plug-ins are in most cases provided by the vendor of the access control system(s)
that is integrated.
