Title: Head Coach Employment Group: Simon Fraser University, Recreation Department/Club: SFU Field Hockey Club Affiliations: Simon Fraser University and Burnaby Lake Field Hockey Club Compensation: Subject to Education and Experience Job Summary: The Head Coach is required to provide technical, tactical, and strategic support with respect to the sport of field hockey to SFU Field Hockey Club members both on field as well as off field. The Head Coach will be supported but responsible for the organization of practices and games, as well as attending both practices and games. Organizational Status: The Head Coach will report to the SFU Field Hockey Club executive members where responsibilities are deemed to overlap. The Head coach will also follow policies, procedures, rules, and codes of conduct stipulated by SFU, Burnaby Lake Field Hockey Club, as well as any league (s) or tournaments SFU Field Hockey Club participates in. The Head Coach will be responsible for the supervision and guidance of all SFU Field Hockey Club members. Work Performed: Coaching one game per week Creating and attending two practices per week Actively participating in recruitment related activities Team selection / Consultation of executive nominations and voting prior to polling going public Distribute Scholarship money according to specified guidelines Creating and sending weekly game rosters/line-ups Creating and implementing a coaching strategy Other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job Consequences of Error: Works within defined guidelines and procedures, but is expected to exercise initiative and sound judgment when establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion. Changes to guidelines and procedures are subject to review by the club executive, club affiliates, league affiliates and university. Supervision Received: Receives general training and information from previous personnel, when available, also follows the general guidance of the SFU Field Hockey Executive. Supervision Given: Supervises all relevant SFU Field Hockey Club members and may assign tasks to them to complete outside of the pitch. Qualifications: Education in the Field Hockey Canada NCCP program and holding a head coaching position for a minimum of 2 years. Equivalent education and experience will be assessed. Experience with coaching at a junior level is an asset. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
