What is the Function of the Holy Spirit Today?
Welcome, Visitors!

o remembering our Lord’s sacrifice through
communion (Acts 20:7).
We want to have a record of your visit. Please complete
the visitor’s card that is in the pew before you and place it in

A Happy Announcement from the Elders

Please add these two families to your directory.
This is a great question. The Holy Spirit is one of
the three of the Godhead (Acts 5: 3,4 17:29). We should
realize that the Holy Spirit has always been active. We read
these words “The Spirit of God was hovering over the face
of the waters" during the original creation (Genesis 1:2).
We also read that the Spirit was involved in creating man –
"let us make man in our image..." (Genesis 1:26). During
the time of miracles, the Holy Spirit imparted miraculous
gifts (I Corinthians 12:8-11). So the question is asked what
function does the Holy Spirit have today. To establish the
work of the Spirit and how he performs this work, let each
of us consider the following works of the Holy Spirit.
First of all the Holy Spirit is involved in the new
birth. For Jesus said, "Unless one is born of water and the
Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God" (John. 3:5).
Other areas we read of in the scriptures we find the Spirit
sanctifies (I Peter 1:2), the Spirit convicts (John16:8),
comforts (Acts 9:31), teaches (I Corinthians 2:13), saves
(Titus 3:5), purifies (I Peter 1:22), and exerts power
(Romans 15:13).
What we need to remember is that these same
actions are said to be realized as a result of the word of
God. We are born again by the word (I Peter 1:23),
sanctified by the word (John 17:7), and convicted by the
word (Titus 1:9). We also find that the word of God
comforts (I Thessalonians 4:18), teaches (2 Thessalonians
3:16, 17), saves (James 1:21), purifies (I Peter 1:22), and
exerts power (Romans 1:16)
Well then we ask what does that mean for us today?
It shows us that in every case of salvation today is
commenced, continued, and shall be consummated by the
Holy Spirit. The Spirit, however, does not work irresistibly,
mysteriously, and directly. He works through the word of
God, the seed of the kingdom (Luke 8:11). Let us thank
God always for His gracious ways and loving desire for
each and every one of us.
