COUNTING ASHA HOURS WHEN WORKING IN TEAMS
Only one student is allowed to count the hours for time spent in assessment or intervention of a
client when services are provided as a team. If one student interviews or administers a
questionnaire to a family member/significant other while the other student interacts/assesses
the client, both students may obtain hours if the supervisor verifies both students were actively
involved in the two phases of assessment during the entire time period. Supervisors must verify
all hours by signing (i.e. initialing) on weekly hour forms before they are submitted to the Clinic
Operations Manager for entry into the master log.
NOTE: When working in pairs in Infant Development, one student may acquire more time than
the other depending on division of duties.
During in-clinic assessments, each student will receive hours only for time spent in direct contact
with the client or family member. This means you cannot count time spent scoring along with
your partner while he/she is conducting a portion of the assessment.
