A Time to Reflect at Greatworth Primary School This week Greatworth Primary School, a small village primary school near Brackley, has been exploring some big questions. For 3 days Greatworth School has hosted its very own piece of tranquillity in the visiting ‘Prayer Space’. Our children have meditated in the stillness and reflected on the big questions in life. We have opened up the doors to welcome share our Prayer Space with 5 other local primary schools. Greatworth children have reflected in the beautiful and peaceful environment of canopies, twinkling lights and glittering bubbles. The children were invited to empathise with the plight of refugees from war-torn countries; the empty plate for many children around the world and share their worries and hopes for the future. They were encouraged to think about how we say sorry and ways to deal with our day-to-day anger and worries. One Y2 wrote: ‘I was excited and nervous at the same time, but when I entered the Prayer Space, I calmed down a little bit.’ Our children have said: ‘I felt the beads for ages, it is a nice feeling when you dunk the palm of your hand in.’ Y5 Boddington ‘Today, I found this space help me. I let all my anger out. I was calm and I am not calm very often. Every day now, I will let all my anger and stress out. Thank you for a lovely day.’ Y5 St Mary’s Catholic Primary School. I found the space relaxing and fun. It made me feel like god was looking over me. I would like an area like this in my school. Y5 Middleton Cheney Primary School. The Prayer Space was calming and made me think of lots of things to be thankful for. Time flew past so quickly and the activities were varied.’ Y5 Middleton Cheney Primary School. ‘Today we went to the music room and it was different because there were two little tents. Then I went to a tube and had to put a tablet in the water and all the sadness went away as it gets smaller. There were two paints you put your finger in: you put your finger in one then the other and do it again and again. These made me think I was special and unique. Next I had to think about the people that don’t have food at all. So I wrote on a plate: anger, starving and sad.’ Kian Y2 Greatworth School The Prayer Space has been a resounding success and has launched our whole school topic on British Values. Later this term, the whole school will find out about the great diversity in how British people worship on the ‘Faith Tour’ in Bedfordshire.
