 Operating goals:
 participates in a simulation of the United Nations Climate Change
Conference, argues its position and negotiates.
 understands that the activities of people living in the rich countries of
the North have an impact on the lives of people around the world and
in particular on the people in the poorer countries of the South.
 Goal:
 to save the world from global warming and its effects.
 to reduce global green house gas emissions by half – a smaller
reduction will not save the world
 CO2 emissions can be reduced through ecomodernisation of the
industry, transport, agriculture or education of the society
 Countries decide themselves by how much they want to reduce their
emissions
 Rules:

The board illustrates global CO2 emissions.

One square symbolizes one unit of CO2 currently emitted.

The table also illustrates the number of inhabitants and the
income of the countries

Reduction by one unit of CO2 costs 1 bank note 100 Euro

The Secretary of the Climate Convention is responsible for
deleting squares and counting the level of emission reductions
 Rules:

Richer countries can also finance the reduction of gases in poorer
countries by investing in their development.

It does not matter by how much a single country will reduce the
emissions, it is important to reduce the global emissions by half
(180 units of CO2).

To save the world from total extinction, global CO2 emission
should be halved within 32 minutes of the start of the game.
 Rules:
 Unless the reduction matches a certain level, a disaster will occur as
a result of global warming
 Rescue funds collected in the Adaptation Fund can save from the
effects of disasters. In order to stop one catastrophe, 6 banknotes
are needed.
 Countries can donate voluntary contributions to the Adaptation Fund,
which can save them from the effects of global warming
 Countries can not spend all their money, they must take into account
the needs of their residents and financial stability of the country.
 Participants:
 COP President - teacher
 Secretary of the Climate Convention - student
 President of the Adaptation Fund - student
 Representatives of individual countries or groups of countries
– 22 students divided into 8 groups.
 Formulate your negotiating strategy
 What are your vital interests?
 What do you need from the other nations/blocs?
 What can you offer them?
 How much can you spend for reduction emission CO2?
 How much can you spend for Adaptation Found?
