Keep your Impact Report short, crisp and use very lay terms. Five or
six pages for the main body of the report; you can use an appendix too.
It is recommended that the template below is used as a framework, divided by
the impact value chain headings, to assist in the creation of the Impact Report for
your research project or programme.

A short summary of the two sections below to engage the reader,
written in very lay terms the donor can use for communications
purposes. Imagine you are writing a short media release, or
article for a non-academic newspaper, or magazine. Outline
the most important outcomes and the impact on people’s lives
and on society.
Direct change, on individuals or environment, measured from one
point to another.
Wider change, on society or environment, measured over a
sustainable period.

Research Output(s)




The ‘output’ part of the impact value chain.
Tangible, immediate practices, products and services that result from
the research activities (noted in previous section) undertaken.

Guideline and Impact Value Chain for more insights).
Research Outcome(s) – write this section first



The ‘outcome’ part of the impact value chain.
Direct change, on individuals or environment that follow from the
outputs, measured from one point to another, over a period of time.
Quantitative and qualitative measurement/evidence at a micro level.
Visuals or tables are effective in demonstrating Outputs and
Outcomes. Use diagrams, photographs, video and internet links,
social media sites etc.
