Mitosis Lab Assessment (36 points)
Task:
Students will create a PPT that both explains and shows examples of each step in cell
division within one week. Your final PPT must be submitted by 2:20pm on Feb. 10th.
Description:
Students will work in self-chosen pairs or alone to search for examples of the different
phases in cell division of an onion root tip. When the perfect example is found, students
will take a “snip it” of the image and place it in their PowerPoint presentation. Once all
images have been found, students will describe each process in their own words for
each slide.
Details:
Each PPT must include the following in this order:
 Title slide w/student’s names, period and date
 One slide for each phase
o Interphase (explain G1, S & G2)
o Prophase
o Metaphase
o Anaphase
o Telophase
o Cytokinesis
 Each phase must include:
o An image taken from the microscope
o Self-written description of what is happening
o Labels for any/all major parts
 One slide explaining how cells regulate cell division.
 One slide explaining the consequences of not regulating cell division.
