Student Activities, Involvement & Leadership
(SAIL)
This manual is designed for individuals whom have been
trained on the SAIL Lighting equipment. If for any reason you
have trouble, please refer to this manual or contact a SAIL
representative for further assistance.

Process
Make sure you have been trained or a member in your group has been trained. If you are
unsure if anyone is trained in your group or would like to be trained, please contact
[email protected] for further assistance.
1. If your club would like to use the equipment please reserve 2-3weeks in advanced by:
 including “SAIL Sound System” in the Miscellaneous section of your room
reservation.
 go online to the Rhodes Office website
2. Equipment Pick Up:
 Go to the Rhodes Office (first floor Balfour) and a SAIL staff member will allow you
access to the equipment.
 With the staff member, fill out the checklist on page #6 thoroughly. This checklist
states all components of the lighting system that are there at the time of rental.
o If there is a missing component please inform the staff member and note it
on the Checklist page 5.
 Give the completed checklist to the staff member.
3. Equipment Drop Off:
 Take the equipment to the Rhodes Office (first floor Balfour) and a SAIL staff
member will review the checklist with you to ensure all the parts have been
returned.
o If there is a missing component you or your group will be charged.
 The staff member will give you access to the storage space for you to return.
Rules
1. Treat the sound equipment with respect and leave it better than you found it.
2. This equipment is valued over $1,000 and YOU are responsible for it from the moment it is
in your care until it is returned. If you break it – you are responsible for its
repairs/replacement.
3. Never give it to another group/person without the consent of the Rhodes Office staff – it
may be reserved by another group after you. And/or you will be held responsible for any
damages or misuse.

Setting Up
1. Open all equipment and fill out the checklist during set up. Make sure you check each piece
of equipment thoroughly noting any missing parts or damaged parts of the equipment.
 Failure to do so may cause revocation of using the SAIL lighting system and/ or
replacement of part out of clubs budget.
2. Set up lighting stands by pulling two legs away from the center of the stand. Place in desired
location and twist the bottom knob in order to lock in place.
3. Place the stand in the location you wish to have your lights.
 Make sure the lights are on level ground and do not block egresses (walking or
emergency paths).
4. Take light bar out of bag and place it on the stand then insert clip.
5. Next take the footpad cord and plug in the light bar.

6. Position the 4 lights in the desired direction/angle.
7. Plug the lights in an outlet.
 Make sure to arrange and tape down the cord so that it does not cause any tripping hazards.
8. Test the lights:
 Turn on by tapping the far left button (#1) on the footpad
 Turn off by tapping the far right button (#3) on the footpad
9. Lift the center bar to raise the lights.
 Do not lift using the light bar.
10. Twist the locking mechanism located in the middle of the center bar to secure the lights.

Troubleshooting
Before you panic, please read this section.
 If it does not power up:

check your cables make sure they are plugged in

check the power outlet

change to another outlet

make sure you’ve pressed footpad #1 hard enough (do not pound/smash)
Breaking Down the System
□ Make sure you gently and thoroughly break down the system after your event.
□ Place everything into their designated bags.
□ Be sure to check the area of the event to make sure you haven’t left anything behind.
