Grinch Day & Holiday
Celebration
This holiday season, 2nd grade will
begin a new tradition- Grinch Day!
In the days leading up to Grinch
Day, we will be reading the book,
How Grinch Stole Christmas, and
completing many fun and
educational activities to go along
with this classic holiday story. On
Wednesday, December 14th, we
will conclude our Grinch activities
by watching the movie, trying
some green food, and more! I will
send out a sign-up genius next
week!
12/22- 1/2 No School
Book Exchange
On December 14, we will have a 2nd grade Holiday Book
Exchange. Each child that wishes to participate will need to bring a
newly, gift-wrapped book on or before December 12th. Books
should be priced in the $1-$5 range. Please buy a gender neutral
book so that a boy or girl would enjoy it. Please put a gift tag on
the wrapped book labeling who the book is from.
We are looking forward to this event!
What are we learning?
This week in reading, the children
focused on the characters in their
books. They reviewed how to make
predictions about their characters
before reading and that sometimes
they need to revise their predictions.
They also used sticky notes to keep
track of the characters wants, needs
and challenges throughout a book.
Next week we will continue to focus on
characters and how that helps us
better understand our stories.
In writing, the children worked on a
holiday writing piece about being stuck
in a snow globe. They wrote a draft
and are now revising by adding detail
to their work. Next week the children
will continue to revise, edit for spelling
and punctuation and will then publish
their work.
In word study, we focused on prefixes
this week. The children learned the
meaning of different prefixes and what
it does to a word when it is added to it.
Next week we will begin learning
about different suffixes which will take
us the next couple of weeks.
In social studies, the children are
learning about different Native
American groups and what makes
them unique.
