Transportation of heavy cargo to two gas combined

Transportation of heavy cargo to two gas combined-cycle
power plants in Beni Suef and New Capital
A Trojan truck and MAN prime movers transporting a generator to Beni Suef CCCPP
ALE was awarded with the transportation of all heavy cargo of mechanical
equipment of the newly constructed gas combined-cycle power plants in
Beni Suef and New Capital, in Egypt.
Being the largest combined cycle project in the world, each plant will be
made up of 8 gas blocks and 4 steam blocks and will generate 4,800MW
of power.
The total heavy cargo ALE has been contracted to deliver comprises of: 16
gas turbines weighing 486t and the corresponding generators, 8 steam
generators transformers weighing 396t, and in collaboration with local
companies more than 380 boiler modules, weighing between 40t - 192t, 16
transformers for gas blocks weighing 196t and 8 transformers for steam
blocks weighing 196t.
The project started in mid-April, focusing on the Beni Suef plant and carry
on in New Capital 2 months later. By the end of August, ALE had
transported 6 turbines, 6 generators and 2 transformers at the power plant
in Beni Suef and 1 transformer, 2 generators and 2 turbines to New
Capital.

Transportation of two gas turbines to Beni Suef
To perform all operative and administrative works in such a short period meant a huge challenge, ALE co-ordinated with
their local partner so that all operations were carried out in time. The route to Beni Suef is 340km and to New Capital is
100km.
ALE transported the gas turbine generators and gas turbines using 40 axle lines of conventional trailers in a 4 file 20
configuration. With the challenging slopes and road, ALE required prime movers to carry the gas turbines The Trojan
truck, patented by ALE, was used on this project, in order to reduce the trucks needed to two prime movers, Trojan
(8X4) and MAN (8x4). Also, another prime mover was used to move the smaller cargo in convoy on same trip using 18
axle lines.
Due to the weight, the trailer has to take a detour to avoid 6 bridges on the highway. But there were 3 bridges impossible
to avoid and which had been reinforced.
Because of the dimensions of the cargo, it was delivered to transhipment area outside of the site because conventional
trailers cannot fit inside. In this area, the cargo was placed onto stools and 24 axle lines of SPMT in a 4 file 12
configuration transported the cargo inside.
