Sports Funding Due to the success and impact of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games the Government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport in April 2013.The funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. It should also be used to encourage and inspire children to enjoy and participate in a healthy and active lifestyle. The 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic games inspired our nation and more recently the 2016 Rio Olympics showed that with the right opportunities we can achieve. At Pennington we are committed to improving the PE provision and raise achievement for all pupils in sport. We may well produce a future Olympic champion but whether or not, we will provide all pupils with the opportunity to learn skills and keep fit and healthy whilst recognising the importance of teamwork and the enjoyment that can be gained from playing sports. Our priorities for 2015-16 were to: Develop staff expertise in teaching all aspects of P.E through providing additional training and professional development. Continue to provide quality coaches for teaching weekly PE lessons across the school to all classes. Increase participation in sport through the provision of additional after school and lunchtime active clubs. Link with local schools to promote sports and competitive opportunities for Pennington pupils. Increase participation in local, district and county-wide competitions and tournaments. Introduce Pennington Paces and Yokids to encourage the health and wellbeing benefits to keeping fit. Fund raise for a path that will circulate the school field and be used for Pennington Paces daily. Purchase additional PE resources to enable a wider and ‘new’ range of sports to be played i.e. rugby balls/ footballs/ gym leotards. Evaluate the P.E and sports provision in school. Apply for the School Sports Games Mark to acknowledge Penningtons’ achievements this year. Here at Pennington we are committed to improving the provision for sport in the curriculum. With the added funding, we aim to build on what has already been achieved, ensuring that each and every Pennington child experiences the benefits. How much do we get? Each school receives £8000, plus £5 per pupil on role in January. This is allocated in two payments in September and April. How is it spent? The large majority of our funding this year has been allocated to accessing sports coaches to work with classes. Onside Sports coaches have worked with each class for a day and a half every week, teaching one P.E. lesson. The class teachers have observed and supported each session which has provided valuable CPD for all staff. Teachers have then repeated and built upon that session to provide their class with a second P.E. session during the week. Below is a more detailed breakdown of the funding for 2015-16.
