Background
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian medical aid
organization working in more than 65 countries worldwide. Médecins Sans Frontières is neutral, impartial,
independent, and not linked to any political party or governmental body. It provides emergency medical
assistance to people in need, irrespective of their nationality, race or religion. In 1996, MSF received the
Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development and in 1999 MSF was awarded the Nobel
Peace Prize. MSF has worked in India since 1999 and provides medical treatment to hundreds of
thousands of Indian patients.
MSF provides free-of-charge essential healthcare. MSF runs hospitals and clinics, perform surgery, fight
epidemics, operate feeding centres for malnourished children and offer mental healthcare. MSF currently
runs projects in the states of Bihar, Manipur, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and
Telangana. MSF India is one of 24 offices and operational centres in Europe, America, Asia and
Australasia, pooling funding, expertise and staff for MSF field operations. MSF India has three key
objectives in support of field operations: the recruitment of skilled medical and non-medical staff, the raising
of vital funds, and public information work.

Purpose of Post
To ensure the safety and security of MSF personnel, MSF house/office/pharmacy/stores in the project location
and sundry goods/assets associated with the premises

Main responsibilities and tasks

Screen authorised people to enter MSF premises and guide them to reception within authorised
hours. Prevent entry of anyone who does not have a valid reason to enter or contact administration
team for authorisation.
Prevent entry of anyone carrying a weapon or of people wearing uniforms. Be always polite and
never put at risk your personal safety.
Filter casual workers authorised by the administration team to work on the MSF site and refuse
access to casual workers not needed after contacting the administration team.
Guarding







Ensure security of MSF premises and property to be protected by watching over the entire
designated area and perimeter fence and carrying out regular patrols.
Neutralise, if possible, intruders without mistreatment and immediately contact line manager.
Ensure security of vehicles within the premises and direct them in and out.
Ensure that no material is taken out of MSF premises without prior authorisation.
Check that doors and windows in the various buildings are locked and that internal lights are
switched off at night during handover and when the occupants or staff leave premises.
Check that security lights are working properly and inform line manager of any possible problems.
Remain on duty until other guard comes to do a handover and never leave post unattended.
Maintenance

Keep the guard room, generator shelter & generator tidy.
Equipment






Look after all equipment provided.
Ensure that the guard’s torch is working properly, return used batteries and keep the necessary
supply of spare batteries. Refill kerosene lamps.
Ensure the correct use of generator and water pump: starting, switching off, record sheet of
operating hours and maintenance. Ensure that tanks are full with diesel/petrol and that there is
always a spare can of fuel.
Ensure that generator and generator shelter are clean.
Ensure correct use of extinguishers as well as know where they are located.
Hand over correctly at each change of shift checking that all guard material is in perfect state (ex.
radio, torch, boots, raincoats, etc.) and in case of a problem report it to line manager.
Reporting





Inform line manager of arrival of any materials before unloading.
Inform line manager in case of absence before start of shift so that arrangements can be made to
find a substitute. Watchmen may not swap shifts without prior agreement of line manager.
When there is a serious reason, ask always line manager for permission to leave assigned position
during shift.
Ensure that line manager is informed of any problems that might be linked to the security of the
perimeter or of the buildings.
In case of an incident in or near MSF premises, inform line manager or technical advisor.

Use security book to register any movement of people, vehicles as well as any important incidents.
REQUIRED WORKING DAYS:
The nature of the work requires presence on Sundays and Public Holidays as per duty roster. Sundays are
considered as a weekday. Special arrangement are only considered for official Public Holidays (as per
Internal Rules and Regulations)

Qualifications

Desirable higher secondary school
Work experience

Previous working experience as guard
Specific skills







Punctuality and ability to work honestly and with initiative.
Capacity to prevent hazard and home/office intrusion
Basic spoken English; Good understanding of local languages.
Punctuality and ability to act with responsibility
Physically fit and able to perform duties;
Ability to be flexible in taking up tasks outside of regular job responsibilities as required
Able to integrate into a multi-cultural team and cooperate with co-workers

SALARY: Rupees 9,341 gross/month
Benefit of 13th Month Salary
PF and Gratuity are applicable as per law.
TOTAL LEAVES: 27 leaves + 12 public holidays per year.
