Main Messages/Impact

Main Messages/Impact
international competitiveness requires faster lead times, lower costs- future
projects need the same safety level as today -> critical as electronics are getting
more sensitive , new and coupled effects appear
to keep a competitive advantage, relying on the most advanced technologies
for future developments is key to deliver the best performance and capabilities
but future development need the same safety level as today -> critical as
electronics are getting more sensitive , new and coupled effects appear
Not possible to address such a growing and complex issue involving a large
variety of skills (physic, electronic, nuclear physic, semi conductor science,
digital electronic, power electronic, software, ....) alone.
Delay in understanding radiation mechanisms for advanced
technologies/devices, or advanced systems.
reaching HL-LHC goals & future accelerators
development of technology -> how basic research can be brought to prototype
for future aviation application- complex GPS systems, sensors, navigation units
(actually both for aviation and space)

Main Messages/Impact
Lack of progress in developing x-Calibration standards, methodologies for
facility based testing of systems
European experience is needed in RHBD IC design for European nondependence and avoiding ITAR restricted components. Radhard ASICs are
needed for nuclear inspection and security, nuclear accident intervention,
robot-assisted de-commissioning of nuclear reactors, future nuclear fusion
reactors and the HL-LHC upgrade
We risk applying some E/E parties containing non-controlled alpha-active
materials both Si and plastics leading to premature aging and so components
failure. Especially important in the case of flash memory.
The combined effect alpha & ECM is important topic because of complicated
ECM environment in road vehicles
We continue to develop our facility to be included also electrons, higher-energy
heavy ion beams and thermal neutrons. We also keep on looking partners in
doing that, but this project only would make it easier to get student
involvement and would strengthen the collaboration to European companies

Main Messages/Impact
international competitive Industry need for expertise/people need for
methodologies procedures adapted to use advanced technologies to address
new missions and markets
system approach is also relevant and interesting from the point of view of
saving time and reducing the costs of a project. Today it is simply not feasible
for us to test and/or fully characterize every single component of our complex
readout electronics. Beam time is very costly and human resources and
expertise is limited
ARIAN-5 ME, ARIAN-6 risk of delay / competitiveness - significant investment
costs- system limitation are the consequences of existing constraints
