Combining industrial performance with environmental
responsibility
> Developing the Group’s electricity cogeneration
capabilities
> Introducing energy efficient measures
> Increasing the share of renewable energies in the
energy mix
Launched in 2008, OCP’s new industrial development
strategy aims at doubling the Group’s mining capacity
and trebling its processing capacity by 2028.
This plan, supported by an investment of more than $21B,
aims to meet the world’s major agricultural challenges
while preserving the environment.
Fully aware of the increasing needs of its industry
on energy resource use, OCP Group has put forward
a responsible and innovative Energy Program.

Combining industrial

environmental
responsibility
The Energy Program is a mix of innovative
measures aimed at the attainment
of electricity self-sufficiency in term
Inspired by the Group’s sustainable development strategy,
the OCP Energy Program has been designed to support the
Group’s industrial development strategy while reducing its
carbon footprint.
Through a set of innovative measures to diversify its energy
mix, the Group is planning to reach electricity
self-sufficiency thanks to the use of low carbon energies
and the optimization of energy consumption across the
entire value chain.
OCP Group’s “Energy Strategy” is driven by 3 main pilars :

capabilities
Cogeneration means producing our own energy
without CO2 emissions
Evolution of OCP Group's
cogeneration activity :
As part of the worldwide commitment to fight climate change,
OCP Group, as the world’s leading producer of phosphate products,
had made energy efficiency a central part of its industrial program.
Planning to triple its processing capabilities, the OCP Group will see a
significant extension of its cogeneration capabilities.
Combined with the use of renewable energy sources, the cogeneration
process will help the Group meet more than 70% of its electricity
requirements by 2017, and 95% by 2020.

The principle of cogeneration is based on the recuperation of the heat
produced by industrial operations required for the production of sulfuric
acid (exothermic reaction) and its use for the production of electrical
energy without CO2 emissions.

2Introducing energy
efficient measures
Energy efficiency across
the full value chain
OCP has introduced energy efficient measures on all
of its sites in order to increase the Group’s electricity
production capabilities and reduce net requirements.
The Group’s energy efficiency policy is based on
efficient consumption, the energy optimization of
production processes, and the use of alternate fuels
for industrial processes.
The most striking example of that policy was
OCP Group’s installation of the slurry pipeline, which
helped the company transport 35% of its phosphate
rock in 2015 with a reduced carbon footprint of
276,600 tons of CO2 eq. in 2015.
A potential total reduction of
930,000
metric tons of CO2 eq. per year

in the energy mix
Using non carbon-emitting
renewable energies
Fully conscious of the growing needs in electric energy due to its
industrial development activities, OCP Group is planning to promote the
use of renewable energies to meet its energy requirements, particularly
through the use of wind energy.
To that end, the Group has developed its own style of electricity supply
through a variety of PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) to meet the
increasing needs in electricity of its mining activities by 2019.
