John chapter 8v. 12 light of the world - go back to chapter one on light v.13 in the last passage Jesus has shown the way to not being condemned, it in the following of Him - the group had tried to witness against the woman and couldn’t stand, now Jesus uses this v.14 I know where I come from and am going- He is the eternal One- no one else was there in the beginning but God v.15 I judge no one- often taken out of context John 3:15-21 (NKJV)15 “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 “But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” v.19 where is your father?- probably a reference to rumors about whether Joseph was the father. - doesn’t yet answer where is the Father v.20 again no on laid hands on Him because His time had not yet come v.24 He has proclaimed Himself God, now proclaims Messiah and God v.25 valid question that we all must answer v.30 many believed v.31-32 abide, perhaps going beyond believing, a good way to say believe, receive, trust in - Psalm 1 - all truth is God’s truth, if it contradicts Scripture it is not truth v.33 how untrue- bondage to Egypt, to Babylon, Assyria, now Rome v.34 -36 if we are slave to sin, we cannot be sons of God, the two are not compatible v.36 there must be someone to set us free, who has the power and the authority v.39 what was the work of Abraham- to believe v.41 again a condemnation from the leadership about His birth v.44 either child of God or child of the devil v.46 going back to who could condemn women- but now more intense, they were equally guilty, now Jesus says who can accuse Him? v.53 pivotal question- Who do You make Yourself out to be? v.56 when did Abraham see Jesus day? - Isaac- Melchizedek v.59 they understood His claim to deity
