Dear Parents Amersham in Bloom Information Day We are delighted that so many schools and nurseries are participating in our Amersham in Bloom campaign once again this year. A huge part in the town’s success over the past couple of years is thanks to the significant contribution and support that we receive from the schools and nurseries in Amersham. A really big thank you. On Saturday 14 May we shall be holding our annual Bloom Information Day in St Michaels Square, Sycamore Road from 10am to 12.30pm. A flyer is attached. Design a Flowerbed Competition. At the Information Day the children whose designs have been chosen in the “Design a Flowerbed” competition (and the runners up) will be presented with their prizes by the Mayor of Amersham, at 11.00am on 14 May. The winning designers will shortly be invited to help plant out their designs and their flowerbed will display a plaque with their design and name. We have two fun competitions for children taking place at the Information Day which will be judged on the day by the Mayor of Amersham and Bloom volunteers. Plant Out a Pair of Wellies. A new competition this year. We are inviting children to plant out an old wellie. The wellie(s) can be decorated and contain any plants they choose - the more colorful the better! We are asking that the children bring their entries to the event by 10.30am on the 14th May. The winners will be chosen on the day with prizes presented at 11.45am by the Mayor of Amersham. Garden in the Shoebox Competition. This competition was so successful in 2015 that we have decided to run it again this year. The idea is to create a garden (in a box) using either real or man-made materials. Perhaps you could use cress as a lawn with lollypop sticks as a fence maybe create a garden made of sweets- There are no rules!. Again, we are asking the children to bring their entries to the Information Day on 14 May by 10.30am, with the winners receiving their prize from the Mayor at 12pm. Grow and Show Bed. Last year Amersham in Bloom introduced the ‘Community Grow and Show Bed’ at Sycamore Corner, opposite the Free Church. Residents of all ages were asked to donate a plant (and plant) for this bed. The result was a huge success with a bed that a riot of colour last summer. The bed was hugely popular with the residents and we are looking to repeat the achievement this year. We are inviting residents- both young and old- to bring a plant (annual or perennial) to Information Day- Our volunteers will be on hand at the Grow and Show Bed to help with the planting and while labels will be provided which will note the name of the plant and the person who donated it. We hope to receive many donations between 10am-12pm so that we can once again create a corner a colour in Amersham. There we will many other attractions at the event including face painting, the opportunity to paint a bird box, free sunflower seedlings as well as a plant sale. We appreciate you taking the time to read this letter and really do hope that you will take part in these initiatives in this very exciting year for Amersham. Thank you once again for your support for Amersham in Bloom. Best wishes Steve Catanach and Jill Mace Amersham in Bloom.
