Dear Parent/Carer,
We are currently changing our home corner into a ‘Supermarket Zoo’ based on
one of the children’s favourite stories. They will be able to go ‘shopping’ using
shopping baskets, play food and real packets of groceries. They will have a cash
register to use and money.
We will talk about various different shops and will be visiting the local
supermarket to use real money to purchase snack etc.
Health and safety
At drop off time the doorway gets very congested with children entering
preschool and parents/carers helping them settle. Unless your child is unsettled
please allow them to enter preschool independently. This is an important stage
of your child’s development. If you need to speak to a member of staff please
wait until all the children have entered preschool and a member of staff will
make themselves available to you. Please ensure you enter preschool via our
playground. Please DO NOT walk through the school to ensure the safety of the
school children.
Questionnaire
We will be emailing you a Parent/Carer questionnaire this term. We are
constantly evaluating our practice and we value your opinions and look forward to
reading your comments. Please ask a member of staff for a paper copy if
required.

September 2015 sessions
We are currently allocating sessions for children starting in September 2015. If
you know of anyone looking for pre-school sessions, please ask them to contact
us to arrange a visit to look around. Spaces are allocated on a first come basis so
we advise parents to submit registration forms early. If you want to increase
your current sessions, please ask Sam for availability.
Snack
Please remember to provide your child with a piece of fruit, cereal or bread for
snack each week. We have been low on snack recently and haven’t been able to
offer a wide choice of snack for your child.
Alice in Wonderland – Thursday 5th March 2015
The school are holding an Alice in Wonderland themed day and we have been
invited to join year 5 and 6 for a Mad Hatters Tea Party. It would be wonderful
if Abacus could dress up as a character from Alice in Wonderland to embrace
the theme.
Open Morning Friday 13th March 9.15am – 10.15am
We are holding an open morning at pre-school on Friday 13th March between
9.15am and 10.15am. This is for new parents joining us in September and any
parents who are interested in joining Abacus and would like the opportunity to
look around the preschool.
If you know of anyone who is interested please encourage them to come. We still
have sessions available for September 2015.
Coffee Morning Monday 16th March 2015
We will be hosting another coffee morning for Parents/Carers which will also
include a Mother’s Day Celebration. We had some lovely feedback from our last
coffee morning and it is really nice for us to see so many of you sharing your
time with us.

Parent/carer helpers
In the event you are able to volunteer to help in Pre School any time, please
speak to a member of staff. We always welcome parent/carers participation in
the setting as it allows us to carry out extra activities with the children, such as
cooking, walks to the post office, supermarket and local pond etc.
Parent/Carer consultations – Monday 23rd March 3.30pm – 5.00pm
We will be holding parent consultations for you to discuss your child’s progress
with their keyworker on Monday 23rd March 3.30pm – 5.00pm. Please see the
sign-up sheets on the notice board nearer the time. This is optional, so if you
prefer to look through your child’s diary without the keyworker, please enquire.
Dress up and Party day – Tuesday 24th March 2015
We will be holding a party/dress up day on Tuesday 24th March 2015. We include
all children in our activity days and therefore try to have different days each
term. Please be patient if your child hasn’t attended a dress up/party day as yet.
Dress code to be decided by the children nearer the time.
Lost property box
Please could you collect any clothing or toys from the red lost property box as it
is now overflowing. Any items left at the end of this term will be taken to the
local Charity shop. It is becoming a problem that so many belongings are not
being collected at the end of the day.
End of Term – Friday 27th March 2015. We are due back to preschool on Monday
13th April 2015.
