March 26th, 2012
Issue
• A number of states will (or have) purchased an
AMPT
– Most recently in the FHWA Pooled Fund study
• Limited training accompanied the purchase
• Important for states to have proper knowledge of
equipment, test procedures, and data reduction as
AMPT moves towards implementation
– MEPDG
– WMA and RAP mix evaluations
– HMA Performance specifications and general research
Main Purpose
• To provide a forum to educate current and future
AMPT users on the proper use and
implementation of the AMPT
– Similar to what was previously done with the MSCR
test by NEAUPG
• Members would consist of representatives from:
– Highway agencies
– Industry
– Academia
Members
• Lead Members
– 1 each from industry, state agency, and academia

an AMPT for HMA mixture evaluation
Immediate Activities Required

– 1 each from industry, state agency, and academia
in the northeast

– Some now on order through Pooled Fund; when
will they be arriving
• Volunteers for initial round robin study on
dynamic modulus and flow number
Proposed/Future Activities
• Develop website
– AMPT information hub for the NEAUPG
– Home to specs, best practices, research, current activities
• Precision and Bias for current AASHTO TP79 based on
Round Robin work
– Dynamic modulus
– Flow Number
• Workshops on data reduction and analysis
• Updates/Workshops on additional tests for AMPT
