OPEN NIGHT
2013
WEDNESDAY 24 JULY 2013, 5.30PM-8.30PM
www.acu.edu.au
Welcome to ACU
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Brisbane Campus. The campus is located
on an outstanding, picturesque 40 hectare site, high on a hill some 12 kilometres
to the north of the Brisbane CBD, and close to the international airport.
The campus is accessible via Brisbane City Council buses which run from the
city to Approach Road. ACU also offers a free shuttle bus to ferry students from
Toombul and Northgate Railway Stations and Chermside Shopping Centre, to
the Campus. Uniquely, car parking is free of charge and there is ample parking
space to go around for all students wishing to access the campus by vehicle.
With 5,000 students on site, we are proud of our close-knit community. ACU
Brisbane offers a caring and individual educational experience.
Campus facilities include a 25 metre swimming pool and a parent’s room.
There is a student recreational room with a large screen television and pool
table. There is also a brand new Multi-Sports court. All these facilities are for
use by students free of charge. There is also a cafeteria and library on campus,
and many parts of the campus are wi-fi enabled.
EARLY ACHIEVERS’
PROGRAM
The campus has undergone rapid expansion. The campus is well known for its
offerings in Education, Nursing and Midwifery, Paramedicine, Exercise Science,
Physiotherapy, Psychology, Religious Education, Social Work, Social Science,
Theology, Arts and Business.
The campus will be offering a number of new

double degrees across different faculties: Exercise
Science/Business Administration, Exercise

Global Studies.
The Early Achievers’ Program (EAP) is an early entry scheme that recognises
the achievements and community contributions made by prospective
students, of both school leaver and non-school leaver backgrounds.
I welcome you all to the Brisbane Campus to meet
our staff and students and tour our facilities and
services. I guarantee that you will receive a warm
welcome and helpful advice at this important
time for your future.
Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their EAP application
ahead of usual university offers, allowing them to enjoy their summer with the
confidence of knowing they have secured a place at Australian Catholic University.
Professor Jim Nyland
Associate Vice-Chancellor (Brisbane)
Whether it be volunteering in a local cultural, sporting or religious group
or providing care to someone in need, if applicants have the enthusiasm to
succeed, they are the type of student that the University would like to welcome.
Also taken into consideration are community contributions, employment
experience and professional courses that have been undertaken.

DIGITAL JOURNALISM
The rapidly changing media environment provides the opportunity for ACU
to provide a suite of Digital Journalism units that is designed to keep up with
the evolution of the new media and resulting changes to journalistic practice.
The units can be taken either as a Major or a Minor – depending on the
student’s choice and program.
The Digital Journalism stream is a professionally-oriented program whose
units are designed to produce students who are skilled in a range of areas
of digital media and convergence journalism. The capstone production
units enable the students to consolidate the skills that they have developed
in previous units and to develop leadership skills as News Directors in the
converged newsroom. Student work produced in the online news, audio
and video journalism units will be checked and published online as part of
a converged web news site. Advanced level students will also be given the
opportunity to apply for internships with local media outlets.
