Its was FA Cup weekend and Chaddy Eagles were drawn at home against 2nd division leaders Woodbank
who had played 2 won 2 and conceded none prior to this match.
Confidence was high in the Eagle camp coming into this game fearing no-one.
An early start at approx 8.15 am down at Chaddy Fold saw coach and parents arrive to help erect nets etc..
With Adam still injured and Jake away the Eagles were down to a bare 7 players. Team selection much
easier this week as the team would pick itself.
5 mins to kick off and panic sets in….. we only have six… no Thomas…
With Woodbank doing warm ups and passing practice looking like Chelsea we gathered our lads around and
had a chat… Look lads today we need to dig deep and work extra hard… we only have 6 and they have 7..
but don’t worry, I have every faith in you all that we can pull off the win of the season..
Game kicked off and Chaddy Eagles had their backs against the wall, the extra man showed as the Eagles
defended bravely but started to defend deeper and the pressure kept coming. Our defence held strong Milo on
his own at the back but rec’d lots of help from Christian, Jimmy and George with Lucas left stranded up front
on his own.. It was inevitable that the break through would come.. 2 goals in the first half saw the eagles 2 – 0
down at half time.
Second half was a different story, the Eagles finally got their seventh man, better late than never.. a quick
team talk and we were back to our normal formation… Game on….let’s show these lads what us Eagles can
do.
Seven v Seven and the team looked a different class, Park passed it around from the back, great wing play
from Jimmy and George, Lucas put pressure on the Woodbank defence and Christian and Milo pushed up
through the middle, attacking throw – ins came, corners, freekicks the lot. And soon infront of a record
crowd of approx 35 the Park supporters had something to cheer, on the edge of the box, WALLOP!, Milo
shot from distance, GOAL, he continues his excellent record of scoring in every game.. Game on.. Woodbank
to give them credit are a very good team and created chances of their own and as Park pushed for more goals
Woodbank scored 2 themselves as Park failed to clear basic corners.
Most teams in this situation would have crumbled, but not the Eagles, heads stayed high and they knew they
could get back into the game. Park piled on the pressure again and Jimmy Greaves scored with a looping
header over the keeper… game on once again…. Park pushed forward and got a free kick, up steps
Christian.. SHOOT shouts the Parks fans… the shot took a re-bound and Christian shot again, once again the
shot was blocked but third time lucky, Christian picked up the re-bound and WACKO… a powerful shot
from the edge of the box Rippled the Woodbank netting, Woodbank 4 Chaddy Eagles 3… Now its GAME
On… from what appeared to be an easy Woodbank win turned out to be a real match… Woodbank
supporters began to check their watches for time left, Parks Coach was hoping for another 20mins of added
time but the final whistle went and Park may have lost the match 4 – 3 but in the heart of their coach and of
the watching supporters everyone of those Eagles were real winners who played with determination and true
grit.. Well done boys you made us all proud.. !!!
