SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FOR
ALASKA AVALANCHE SCHOOL
With assistance from the Pumpkin Hill Foundation and the Dusty Woster Memorial Fund, the Alaska
Avalanche School has established a scholarship program for students wishing to advance their knowledge of
avalanche safety training. Our scholarship program is here to assist with tuition assistance and can offer to
cover up to 65% of the tuition cost for those that are eligible.
Please read all of the following information and return this completed application to the AAS office via post,
email, or fax. The AAS office hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Alaska Standard Time.
The AAS Mission Statement:
Alaska Avalanche School is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide exceptional
experience-based snow avalanche safety education to all users of the mountain environment. Our goal at
AAS is to provide the best possible opportunity for learning about avalanche hazard evaluation in the
backcountry.
Courses Available for this Program:
Every course offered on Alaska Avalanche School’s schedule is eligible for Scholarship assistance. Please see
our website for our current schedule of courses.
Financial Assistance:
The AAS Scholarship program will cover up to 65% of total course tuition to students in need of financial
assistance. The remaining 35% of tuition is the responsibility of the student. Please indicate the amount of
assistance you would like when completing the application.
Student Responsibility:
Students that are awarded funding from our program are required to submit the following to AAS upon
completion of their course. Electronic submission is preferred, but snail mail or FAX works great.
~A letter of Thanks to the Pumpkin Hill Foundation for providing the support and funding of the scholarship
program. Please include what you learned in the course, how it will help you in the future and your total
overall experience.
~A picture of you taken during the course or outside in the backcountry to accompany the letter.
Scholarship Application Deadline:
All applications should be completed and returned in full as soon as possible.
