Crown Plaza Hotel 11 Kellogg Blvd. E. St. Paul, MN 551-1 651=292-1500 www.crowneplaza.com/StPaul The Crown Plaza Hotel is located at the corner of Kellogg Blvd. (on the south side) and Wabasha (Wau-baa-Shaw) Street N. on the west side and Cedar Street on the east. The main entrance is on Kellogg Street (facing south) and there is a ‘canopy’ over the entrance as the second floor of the hotel extends over the sidewalk. There are two sets of automatic doors that lead (north) into the lobby. Note – during the initial visit, the hotel was in process of completing renovations and many of the facilities (e.g. restaurant, fitness center, swimming pool) were not available for review, but will be included on a supplemental write up, hopefully just before conference and/or will be included in the site tour of the hotel. The hotel’s layout is as follows: Lobby Level – hotel registration desk, Bell and Concierge Services, Gift Shop, Coffee Shop, Ambassadors Club, Restaurant/Bar, hotel elevators, escalators (serving Lobby, Lower Level meeting rooms, first floor meeting rooms – these meeting rooms are not being used for any AHEAD Conference Activities). Lower Level – meeting rooms, not used for any AHEAD Conference activities) First Floor – (locate above the Lobby Level the floor number configuration is similar to the European model) – meeting rooms, not used for any AHEAD Conference activities, Fitness Center (currently in renovations) Second Floor – administrative offices 3 to 22 – Guest Rooms - there is a 13th floor and the 4th floor will have the service dog relief area. Lobby – the Lobby floor of the hotel is essentially in two parts. The west side has the registration desk, Concierge Desk, Club, Gift Shop, Coffee Shop and Restaurant. The east side has escalators that serve the lower level, lobby level and first floor, and Kellogg meeting rooms and restrooms. The east and west sides of the lobby basically separated by the elevators. As you enter (going north) hotel lobby (tiled floor) from the main doors (two sets sliding) you will be on the west side of the lobby. Immediately on your left (west) will be (planned) the Concierge Station and behind that the entrance to the Ambassador’s Club. Continuing north on the west side is the hotel registration desk. At the north end of the lobby will be the new restaurant/bar. Before you get to the restaurant/bar there is a hallway to your left (west) that will have the gift shop and coffee shop on the left (south) side of the hall. At the end of the hall is an exit door to Wabasha Street. The east side of the lobby, on the south side has a set of doors that are for emergency exit. On the east wall near the south wall is the Men’s Restroom and a guest room card is required for access. Continuing north trailing the wall, you will hear and come to the bottom from the first floor meeting rooms (not used for any AHEAD Conference activities, on your left the escalator that serves the first floor. On the opposite (west) side of the escalator is an open area between the escalator and the elevators. Continuing north near the end of the wall is the top of the escalator that goes to the Lower Level meeting rooms (not used for any AHEAD Conference activities) but around the corner to the right (east) the first door is the Women’s Restroom. There is an area on the south side of the lobby that extends from the west side (front door) to other east side that has areas with sofas/chairs and tables. There is a sofa on the south side of the elevator and next to the front windows. On the north side of the elevators is an east/west hall that goes from the meeting rooms at the east past the elevators (on left) and [planned] restaurant on the right to the exit doors at Wabasha Street. Elevators – located in the middle of the lobby floor – directly across (east) from the hotel registration desk. There are three elevators, two on the north side (car 1&2) and one on the south side (car 3). The elevators serve all levels/floors of the hotel. The call button is located on the north side between the two elevators. The button panel inside the elevator from top down 19 – 20 – 21 – 22 15 – 16 – 17 – 18 11 – 12 – 13 – 14 7 – 8 – 9 – 10 3–4–5–6 B – L (Lobby) – 1 – 2 Alarm – Open Doors – Close Doors – Key access (operations) Phone (center) Guest Floors There are two north/south parallel hallways connected by the elevator lobby on each floor. As you exit elevator 1&2 the west hallway will be to your right and the east hallway will be to your left. From elevator #3 the west hallway will be on your left and the east hallway will be on your right. The room numbers begin in the south end of the west hall with room XX01 on the west wall and continue sequentially to the north end of the hall ending with XX10 and XX11 coming back south on the east side. Next to XX11 on the east wall are emergency stairs. The room numbers then continue sequentially at the north end of the east hallway with XX12 on the west wall. There is a small hallway at the north end with XX13 on the north wall and XX14 and XX15 on the east wall. Continuing south in the hallway on the east side are rooms XX16 to XX20. XX21 is on the south wall and there is a small hallway that continues south with XX22 on the left (east) and XX23 on the right. Across from XX18 in the east hallway are Emergency Stairs. The hallways are under 6 feet wide and the doors to the guest rooms are almost flush with the wall. Only the doorframes extend about one-half inch. Guest Rooms – guest rooms are singles (King) or doubles (2 Queens). Guest room key cards are proxy readers that simply need to be place on the ‘box’ above the door handle. There is a slightly audible ‘click’ that let’s you know the door is unlocked. Inside the door is a deadbolt just above the handle and a security ‘bar’ instead of a wire loop. Pull the inside of tbe bar toward you. Single rooms (King) will have two nightstands, one on each side of the bed, each night stand has a night light (new switches being added) and a telephone on the nightstand closest to the window. There is a power outlet on the headboard for charging phones, etc.. For double rooms there is one night stand between the beds and a phone and lamp on the nightstand. Across from the bed near the outside wall (window) is a desk that has a phone and desk lamp. On the face plate of the desk are power outlets for charging. Nest to the desk toward the door to the room is a dresser with drawers and on opposite side of the dresser are two doors, one with a small refrigerator and coffee make and the other door has a safe. On top of the dresser is a 32 inch flat screen TV. Between the bed(s) and the window is a chair. The windows have 2 sets of curtains, sheers (closest to the window) and blackout. Please remember that housekeeping will usually open the curtains when they refresh your room. The closet is on the wall behind the open door to the room. Bathroom – inside the door to the bathroom on the wall is a rocker switch for the lights. If the room has a shower, it will be just inside to the room side wall. The shower is a walk-in and there is not a shower door. The water control is on the wall closest to the shower opening and the water spigot is at the opposite end (6 feet). The water control lever (in the 6 o’clock position is turned counterclockwise. There are no soap dishes but the top of the counter just outside the shower entrance can be used for soap. On the entrance to the shower is hook on the wall for your towel. The counter runs the full length of the wall. On the counter close to the show are bathing amenities (soap, conditioner and body lotion – all in similar plastic bottles.) Drinking glasses are on top of the counter on the opposite side of the sink and at the end are tissues and power outlets on the wall. A bathmat, towels (all) are on a shelf below the sink as it extra toilet paper and the hair dryer. In the sink there is a single lever above the spigot that is lifted and moved left (hot) or right (cold). Toilet – the top of the toilet seat has a side to it that cover the when closed covers the seat on the sides as well as the top. The flush mechanism is on top of the water tank and there is one ‘buttons’ with two parts to push – the one on the right for liquid only and the one on the left for anything else. For rooms with bathtubs, the water control is similar with the shower activation lever on the spigot. The rest of the configuration is similar. On the wall between the bed and window is the heating/air conditioner unit and the thermostat is about 60 inches. The thermostat has, on the right side two buttons – upper for increased temperature and lower for lower temperatures.
