Gale Article Collections, including Academic OneFile and Literature Resource Center, are premium sources for
peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. With millions of articles available
in both PDF and HTML full-text, researchers are able to find accurate information in an easy-to-use format. Academic
OneFile includes full-text coverage of the New York Times back to 1995.
Advanced Search (Default):
1. Enter search terms in boxes on the right.
2. Use the drop-down menus, on the left, to choose the type of information to
search for; i.e., keyword, author, title, subject, etc.
3. Use the “and” or “not” drop-down boxes with additional search terms to limit the
search; use “or” with additional search terms to expand the search.
4. For full text articles only, check the first box under “Limit results.”
5. You may place other limits on your search – by published date, type of
document, type of source, and others.
6. Click Search.
Results:
 Results are organized by type of source: Academic Journals, Magazines, etc.
Click a tab to view results from that type of source.




Click the article title to access the article and options for viewing and printing.
Click on the linked publication title to learn more about the periodical from which
the article was taken, and to link to other issues of that periodical.
The type of resource is indicated to the right of the citation information.
Save articles for viewing later by checking the “Mark” box. To view your saved
items, select the “Marked Items” icon above the light blue header bar.
Subject Guide Search:
(This type of search can help you if you’re not sure what you’re looking for.)

Select Subject Guide Search from the light blue header bar.
Enter your search term or phrase.
Enter any limits that you want – follow directions.
Click Search.
Subject Search Results:
 Left-hand column shows terms related to your search. Right-hand column shows
number of articles using each term.
 “Subdivisions” link will display other terms focusing on specific aspects of the
general term. For example, subdivisions for “Terrorism” include analysis, causes
of, demographic aspects, forecasts & trends, etc.
 “Related subjects” link will display narrower terms (such as cyberterrorism),
broader terms (such as crime), and related terms (such as World Trade Center
and Pentagon Attacks, 2001).
 Click on any linked text to display the articles connected with that subject.
Publication Search:
(Find out if a particular journal is included in this database. Link directly to issues and
articles from the journal you select.)

Select Publication Search from the light blue header bar.
Enter the publication’s title, or a word from the title.
Choose from the “Limit the results” options as appropriate.
Click Search.
If the desired publication displays as a result, you may link directly to issues of
that publication by clicking the publication title, then selecting the appropriate
issue by date.
Information Formats:
 CITATION – author, title, source information only
 ABSTRACT – a citation and summary of article
 TEXT – full text of article
 TEXT WITH GRAPHICS – full text plus illustrations or tables
 PDF – image of article scanned directly from print version
Other features:
1. While exploring your results, save interesting items for future review by checking
the “Mark” box at top of article display. To view saved items, choose “Marked
Items” icon above light blue header bar.
Tools:
Click on the article title in the Results List to view the article and other options. The red
TOOLS box will display to the right side of the article.
 If a PDF version of the article is available, a PDF link will
appear in the box.
 To print a plain text version of the article, select the “Print
Preview” icon in the box.
o To print the PDF version (when available), use the
printer icon found in the top left corner of the PDF
frame.
 Email articles to yourself or others by selecting the “Email” icon in the box.
 Download articles by selecting the “Download” icon in the box.
 Get help with citations by selecting the “Citation Tools” link. To generate a
citation in MLA or APA format, use the top set of buttons, then click SAVE when
prompted. To export the citation to a third party citation manager, use the
second set of buttons. Export options are available for EndNote, ProCite,
Reference Manager, and RefWorks.
