Today’s developments with their infrastructure are becoming more complex and challenging. Their large scale coupled with diversity of functions or very specialized performance criteria demand collaborative frameworks as part of the design and implementation processes to facilitate sterling quality outcomes. Computational tools and advanced construction technology have become indispensable means for architects, engineers and builders to perform in the arena of high user expectation and competitive markets. Buildings besides meeting their programmatic requirements, are also accountable for achieving the stringency of resources consumed, energy used, impact on the environment and the attainment of wellness of the users. The scope of design has now encompassed the life-cycle of the building. As such the consideration of construction, operation and maintenance are significant design attention in the different phases of a building’s life. All these emphasize the importance of a collaborative platform that ensures seamless information conveyance, effective communication, comprehensive synthesis and coordinated efficacies. The inaugural BOA-ACES Conference 2017 will enable practitioners to gain insights for gearing up to engage the potentials and turbulences of the future. Structured into three topics under the theme of Collaborative Alliances – Building Resilience and Innovative Practices, the first will discuss about opportunities and challenges of building industry in the future. The second topic will present case studies of successful collaborative efforts between architects and engineers. In the third topic, the focus will be on strategies for resilience, productivity and innovative practices.
