I
WHO
WE ARE
First Step Services,
Inc. Transitional
Day Shelter has
been serving homeless individuals and
families since December 31, 2003 and
is located in
Kenosha, Wisconsin. It is the only daytime shelter in
Kenosha that is open seven days a
week and it provides clients with the
basic necessities of food, clothing,
shelter, support services and referrals
to other community agencies and programs.
The mission of First Step Services is to
assist individuals who are currently
homeless and help them transition into
permanent housing and gainful employment. The homeless population in
Kenosha is growing at a rapid rate and
the need for a day shelter is critical for
serving homeless families and individuals. It is our goal to provide a
place for homeless individuals and
families to go during the day, to receive support services and also be a
part of a caring and respectful community.
Our program components are designed
to motivate individuals to look for
housing and stable employment. We
provide aftercare when permanent
housing is found as well as make referrals to community resources when
needed.
I I

ONGOING
NEEDS
Financial: tax deductible donations of
any amount will do a great deal to improve the lives of our clients.
I
Goods: Food (perishable & nonperishable), household items, personal
hygiene products, baby supplies,
clothes (all sizes), cleaning supplies,
educational items (school supplies,
books, magazines,
etc.) , medical supplies, and health
needs are essential
to restoring dignity.
Time and Talent:
All of the shelter
staff members are volunteers and are
not paid. Volunteers are needed to
help in any capacity by sharing their
time and talents (i.e. prepare meals, life
skills instructors, pantry, facility improvements, and fundraising events).
We also welcome community and
church groups to serve as volunteers.
