PRESS RELEASE FOR PUBLICATION
Leonberg, 7th April 2011
World Health Day on 7th April 2011
Stay healthy with automatic door systems from GEZE
When there was an acute risk from swine flu in 2009, hygiene was criticised in a number of
hospitals. Illnesses that are caused by contact with contaminated objects as the most
common method of transfer can, however, be found everywhere. Many of us feel
uncomfortable, for example, when we have to touch the door handle when leaving a public
toilet, after having washed our hands. Door handles and push buttons contain a risk of
infection wherever there are many people going in and out – in restaurants and hotels,
fitness studios, sports facilities, swimming pools, schools and nurseries. Reason enough to
indicate options for avoiding infections on doors on World Health Day.
Fully automatic doors ensure hygiene for the doors. Sliding, single action, or revolving doors
can open or allow people to pass through them without contact. They are activated by
sensors that register the movement or simply the presence of a person in front of the door.
There are also non-contact opening switches. A simple hand movement in front of the switch
opens the door.
The best automation system for every door
In large and impressive entrances, fully automatic designer sliding doors with almost
noiseless drive motors are the best solution. As the name suggests, the GEZE "Slimdrive"
drives are "slim" and are attached to the door very discreetly. Very busy single action doors,
such as in the foyers and hallways of office buildingsor hospitals, are automated with
Slimdrive drives. If a little less automation is possible, a single action door can be opened
with the "push & go" principle. Briefly touching the door leaf – ideally with the elbow – is
sufficient to start the opening motor. The door handle does not, therefore, have to be
touched. Even in hospital rooms or old people's rooms in hospitals and care facilities or in
private households, it is possible to automate single action doors with little effort. The drives
are plugged directly into the socket, meaning that doors can also be automated
subsequently. Automated door systems are also worth it for less busy doors: smaller sliding
doors, such as the kind frequently used in the sanitary areas or examination rooms of
hospitals or doctors' practices, also open and close fully automatically or with the "push & go"
function. Operating theatres, intensive care wards and laboratories are amongst the most
sensitive areas in the hospitals in terms of hygiene. Specifically in hospitals, GEZE installs
hermetically closing automatic sliding door systems which keep germs out.
Fresh air is cleaner
We spend at least two thirds of our life indoors. Therefore, the quality of the indoor air has an
important effect on our health. Exchanging used indoor air for fresh air containing oxygen
from outside ensures a good room climate, in which germs have few opportunities to spread.
The opening and closing of windows, skylights and dome lights to ventilate the rooms
everyday is performed by window drive systems. If they are connected to the central building
control system, as is often the case in larger buildings, forced ventilation may be performed,
for example when a specific concentration of carbon dioxide is reached. Timers can also be
connected to the drives.
