website – www.EdisonNJ.org. Thanks for helping us save the environment.
2017 SUMMMER PLAYGROUND PROGRAM
Playgrounds will be open for Edison Township residents, age 5 to age 12,
from July 3rd to August 11th, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
(weather permitting). A variety of activities will be held on the playgrounds
for the children; including Arts & Crafts, Games, Science, Trips and
Special Events at the following locations: Capestro, Edison Woods, Elder,
Ellmyer, Lindquist, Menlo Park, Stelton, Washington, and Yelencsics.
Due to the popularity of the Stelton and Elder Playgrounds, program
activities at these sites will be run according to age groups. The age
groups are: ages 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12; or possibly ages: 5-8 and 9-12.
This depends on the number of children registering at these playgrounds.
Very rarely will age groups mix together for activities. Therefore, if you
would like to keep siblings of different age groups together, please sign up
at any of the other six playgrounds
The Stelton Playground will be the only playground that can accommodate
children with disabilities. Please contact the Edison Recreation Office with
any A.D.A. concerns or questions.
There is a $40.00 non-refundable registration fee for each registered child.
Checks or money orders only will be accepted on the playground starting
July 3rd.
PRE-REGISTRATION WILL RUN FROM JUNE 1st – JUNE 23rd. Cash,
checks, money orders and credit cards will be accepted during preregistration only at the Recreation Office, 100 Municipal Boulevard.

TEENS OFFERED VARIETY OF CLASSES FOR SUMMER
A variety of classes from sculpting to basketball instruction will be offered
this summer to all Edison middle school and high school students with a
valid teen center ID. These summer classes will begin on June 26th and
run through August 18th.

SUMMER RECREATION SPONSORED TRIPS
The following trips will be offered throughout the summer. Sign up
at any of our 9 playgrounds daily from 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. All
trips are subject to change. Limited Tickets – First Come – First
Served. Applications are available beginning June 1st.
All
applications are due with the trip/transportation fee. All trips may
close before the application deadline date, which means that the
trip is full. Teens are eligible to go on these trips and a staff
member will chaperone them. From the website, click on individual

SUMMER ADULT PROGRAMS
The Edison Recreation Department, through the Stelton & Minnie B. Veal Community Centers is pleased to offer adult classes. To participate in the adult
classes, all adults must be registered prior to attending the class. The classes are free to Senior Citizens who are registered with Edison Township and they
must present their Edison Township Senior Citizen Identification Card. Adult yearly membership includes: admission into the Chess Club, Chinese Dance,
Line Dance, Ping Pong, Open Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Tai/Chi and Billiards.
Classes other than Aerobics, Yoga and Zumba which are ongoing will begin the week of June 26, 2017 and run through the week of August 18, 2017.
COMMUNITY CENTERS TO CLOSE ON
SATURDAYS
The Stelton and Minnie B. Veal Community Centers
will close on Saturdays for the summer beginning on
July 1st and will reopen on September 9th. Both
centers will still be open Monday through Friday from
8:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
JUST SAYING…
Township Offices & Community Centers
will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, 2017
for Independence Day.
SCOOP & SCORE SUCCESS – YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP
THURSDAY, JUNE 22ND ~ EDISON HIGH SCHOOL
10:00 AM-2:00 PM ~ AGES 6-18 ~ $25 PER CHILD
Come learn the drills and skills of football in a fun and energetic
environment. This camp will give you the opportunity to learn
fundamentals of the game and interact with some of your favorite NFL
players. All aspects of football will be covered including the importance
of fair play, teamwork and good sportsmanship. Participants will learn

NEW PROGRAMS
PUBLIC SPEAKING was such a big hit with our Kids Fun Clubs program and our teens, we will be offering a summer program for
elementary and middle/high school students this summer.
LANGUAGE BUILDING will be offered for toddlers and their parents.

MAKE YOUR MOVE TO FAMILY CHESS THIS SUMMER
Recreation Chess for the whole family will be held at the Stelton Community Center on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at the
Minnie B. Veal Community Center on Fridays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for Edison children, seven years old and up and their parents.
Elementary aged children are free, but middle and high school children and adults will be charged a community center membership fee.
PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM
A pre-school program is available for 3 year
olds from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Tuesdays
and Thursdays and 4 year olds from 9:30 a.m.
to 12:00 noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays at the Stelton Community Center.
Applications are being accepted on a first come
first served basis for September 2017.
ABC/YAP PROGRAMS
The Edison Recreation Department, in cooperation with
the Edison Board of Education, will be offering the A.B.C.
(After Before School Child Care) Program for children in
grades K-5 during the school year in all public elementary
schools in the Township from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and
from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The Y.A.P. (Young Adolescent
Program) serves the middle school students in grades 6 th,
7th and 8th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Applications are

EDISON TOWNSHIP RECREATION DEPARTMENT OFFERS JOB FAIRS
The Edison Recreation Department will be offering Job Fairs for ABC/YAP and Kids Fun Clubs. The Job Fairs will be held on two (2) different days at two (2)
separate locations. On Tuesday, July 11th the fair will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Stelton Community Center, 328 Plainfield Avenue. On
Tuesday, July 18th, the fair will be held at the Minnie B. Veal Community Center, 1070 Grove Avenue from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
JOBS TO BE OFFERED ARE LISTED BELOW:
BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CHILD CARE PROGRAM – ABC/YAP – We are looking for instructors and assistants to work in our Before & After School
Child Care. Persons 16 years of age and older are needed to provide varied, supervised activities for children in grades kindergarten through fifth; such as
study/homework time, snack time, arts & crafts and recreational activities. The program hours are before school from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and/or after
school from 3:00/3:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This program is held in every public elementary and middle school in Edison Township and
follows the school year calendar.
KIDS FUN CLUBS – We are looking for instructors and assistants for approximately 6 weeks on Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. or Saturdays from
9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. for classes such as; arts & crafts, cooking, science, and more.
SHORINJIRYU KARATE OFFERED AT RECREATION CENTERS
It is the ultimate purpose of Shorinjiryu Karate-do to develop individuality in mind and body through the study of traditional techniques and the spirit of
competition.
Training is offered to children above the age of 9, teenagers and adults of Edison Township. Children and adults will gain confidence and self awareness
through physical training and study of forms under the guidance of our experienced staff. Adults will learn to cope with stress using stretching and
breathing techniques. Self defense and traditional weapon training is also incorporated into our program. Students are expected to attend at least (2)
classes per week. Please go to the Township website for details.
CRICKET CLINIC FOR KIDS
This program will cover all aspects of the game of Cricket, from understanding the basic rules to bowling, fielding and batting. This program will run for

ADULT FALL SOFTBALL LEAGUES
Team applications will be available starting June 1st. The team entrance fee is $200 and downloadable applications are available on this site.

MEN’S SENIOR LEAGUE – will run on Wednesday nights. All participants must be age 50 and over in the 2017 calendar year to be eligible.
MEN’S LEAGUE – will run on Thursday nights. This will be an ASA aluminum bat league.
BOTH LEAGUES WILL HAVE A 6 TO 12 FT. ARC PITCH.
RECREATION OFFERS WEIGHT ROOM FACILITIES FOR ADULTS
Our Edison Recreation Department offers weight rooms at both centers – The Stelton Community Center, 328 Plainfield Ave., and the Minnie
B. Veal Community Center, 1070 Grove Ave. Open to both residents and non-residents, both centers offer free weights, universal machines,
tread mills and exercise bikes.
A resident fee of $10.00 a month or a non-resident fee of $30.00 a month is charged. The hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. –
9:30 p.m.
IN PERSON REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED AT THE RECREATION OFFICE, 100 MUNICIPAL BLVD., EDISON.
EDISON SKATEBOARD PARK GOING STRONG
The Skateboard Park, located opposite the Edison Municipal Complex, 100 Municipal Blvd., is open daily from 8:00 a.m. – dusk. Admission is free but it is
mandatory that participants wear helmets and pads.
Edison Jets is offering FREE registration for the 2017 Football and Cheerleading season. Registration is open to children ages 5-15. There are 8 football

North Edison Wrestling Club - Looking for a place to work out as a wrestler this summer?...Looking for a place to learn how to wrestle this summer?... Then
the North Edison Wrestling Club (NEWC) is the place for you. Workouts are held once a week – Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at JP Stevens High
School. NEWC prides itself on hosting all skill levels as well as levels of enthusiasm…Workouts are modeled as clinics, whereby athletes can hone their

GET IN THE SWING WITH A JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAM
The program will include tennis training, physical conditioning, stroke improvement and Town Tennis match play for both single and doubles. It will
emphasize sportsmanship, discipline, rules and regular attendance to enhance all of the qualities of a good tennis player. The equipment (balls and loaner
racquets) for the program will be provided by Young’s Tennis. Tennis racquets will also be available for purchase from Young’s Tennis. The head instructor

ON POINT BASKETBALL DRILLS & SKILLS
On Point Basketball Drills & Skills Camp will be held at the Minnie B. Veal Community Center on Mondays and Thursdays from June 26th through Aug 3rd. The
program will be held for boys and girls ages 7-10, (3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.) and ages 11-16, (4:50 p.m. – 5:50 p.m.), for a cost of $145.00. This program will
develop basketball skills and physical conditioning. It will emphasize sportsmanship and being a team player. Downloadable applications are available on

The Edison Recreation Department is sponsoring a weekly bowling program at Stelton Lanes for boys and girls ages 5-14. This program will take place on Wednesdays at 4:00

MAD SCIENCE
Mad Science Summer Camps use exciting activities and spectacular demonstrations to capture the attention and imagination of children. Our hands-on programs act as a
launch pad that release a child’s natural curiosity and encourage participants to become more interested in a variety of scientific fields. Each day, campers will receive a take

Danzan Ryu Jujitsu is a non-aggressive form of self defense in which students will learn how to escape from various holds, hold an opponent on the ground, fall safely and throw
