Eczacıbaş ı VitrA has won a sweeping victory at the
2016 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in
Manila, Philippines. Undefeated in the tournament,
Eczacıbaş ı VitrA beat 2016 European Champion Pomi
Casalmaggiore 3-2 to become World Champion for
the second year in a row – a first in the history of
the FIVB Club World Championships.
Playing strong throughout the tournament, the
orange and white team left little to luck in its final
game, countering the powerful plays of its final
competitor with formidable strategy and skill to win
the Championship Cup.
News of Eczacıbaş ı VitrA’s victory was received with
joy in Turkey, where it rose to the top of social
media topics amidst a flood of congratulatory
messages.
Speaking to the press after the match, Eczacıbaş ı
VitrA Coach Massimo Barbolini said he was very
proud of all the players and thrilled to be starting
the new season with such an important cup. “Our
goal now,” he added, “is to repeat this achievement
in the Turkish League and European Champions’
League.”
Alongside the cup, two players received individual
performance awards: Tijana Boskovic as both “Most
Valuable Player” and “Best Opposite”, and Tatiana
Kosheleva as “Best Outside Hitter”.
