Chevron Australia Domestic Gas Fact Sheet Chevron Australia Domestic Gas The Gorgon Project is under construction on Barrow Island, located approximately 60 kilometres off the northwest coast of Western Australia. The project is operated by an Australian subsidiary of Chevron and is a joint venture of the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (47.3 percent), ExxonMobil (25 percent), Shell (25 percent), Osaka Gas (1.25 percent), Tokyo Gas (1 percent) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417 percent). In November 2011, the Gorgon Project signed two significant long-term domestic gas sales contracts with Western Australia’s largest energy retailer, Synergy and the State’s leading energy generator, Verve Energy. Verve and Synergy both entered into contracts for a combined 125 terajoules of gas per day for 20 years. Jansz-Io Field The project includes a three-train, 15.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility on Barrow Island and a domestic gas plant with the capacity to supply 300 terajoules of gas per day to the Western Australian market. The Gorgon and Jansz-Io gas fields are located approximately 65 kilometres west and 130 kilometres northwest respectively of Barrow Island. A subsea gas gathering system is located on the ocean floor at both fields and is tied-back to the onshore LNG plant on Barrow Island via a system of pipelines and control umbilicals. Gorgon LNG will be off-loaded via a 2.1 kilometre long loading jetty for transport to international markets. Domestic gas will be transported to the mainland via a 90 kilometre pipeline, connecting into the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. Chevron Australia markets and sells natural gas into the Western Australian domestic gas market for industrial, commercial and household use. In late 2011, Chevron Australia began construction of the Wheatstone Project. Located at Ashburton North, 12 kilometres west of Onslow in Western Australia, the project will consist of two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 MTPA and a 200 terajoule per day domestic gas plant. Gas from the Wheatstone domestic gas plant will be delivered from Onslow via pipeline to an inlet point on the Dampier Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. Chevron’s equity share (approximately 128 terajoules per day) of domestic gas is marketed separately via Chevron Natural Gas Australia (CNGA), Chevron’s marketing entity for equity domestic gas. The Wheatstone Project is a joint venture between Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (64.14 percent), Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) (13.4 percent), Woodside Petroleum Limited (13 percent) and Kyushu Electric Power Company (1.46 percent), together with PE Wheatstone Pty Ltd, part owned by TEPCO (8 percent). The North West Shelf Project The North West Shelf (NWS) Project, located on the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia, began supplying domestic gas in 1984 and currently provides around 65 percent of total State production. Chevron is an equal one-sixth foundation participant in the NWS – Australia’s first LNG project. Other participants include Woodside Energy (project operator), BHP Billiton, BP, Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) and Shell. The project has a track record as a safe, competitive and reliable supplier of domestic gas and LNG. Eighty percent of the project’s foundation capacity will be fed with natural gas from the Wheatstone and Iago fields, which are operated by Chevron Australia in joint venture with Australian subsidiaries of KUFPEC and Kyushu Electric Power Company, together with PE Wheatstone Pty Ltd. The remaining 20 percent of gas will be supplied from the Julimar and Brunello In addition to being Western Australia’s largest producer of domestic gas, the NWS Project also accounts for more than one third of Australia’s oil and gas production and is a major producer of liquefied natural gas, natural gas, liquid petroleum gas, condensate and crude oil. Hydrocarbons from the project’s offshore facilities are transported to the Karratha Gas Plant for onshore processing via two subsea trunklines. Domestic gas is exported from the plant to the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline for transportation to customers throughout Western Australia.
